What grid square did you build your base at? Most of the ones I have found are nearer to the edges of the island.

The closest to there that I know of is the ore field in the bottom left hand corner of F6. The Mine with Clay is in G8 which has a crawler out front.

There is clay outside in the NW section of map nearish to the airport. Large area in trees where clay and iron spawn.
