Stone walls
Hi everyone, do you know if stone walls are enough to protect yourself from zombies? I built my base with wooden walls but it was easily destroyed by a horde

they will go through cement walls if theres enough of them, so its a balance of obstacles/traps/defences to kill them all before they kill you....

npc's with weapons will help you, save the big guns and armour for yourself and dont forget ammo, lots n lots of ammo :)

molatovs are good on non wood bases for crowd control and spikes will slow them but they tend to jump over them at times.

Any material can be destroyed by a horde of zombies. The type of material used will determine the ease at which the horde can destroy it.

Setting up defensive traps and structures will slow down the horde from reaching the walls of your base if there is no exterior perimeter fencing. With enough traps, they will kill the zombies in the horde allowing you to not have to use a large amount of ammunition.

If you don't want to worry about repairing/ replacing parts of your main base, you could build a secondary horde base away from the main base. Doing this may mean you are too far away from the NPC's to help you, however with a good setup, the lack of NPC help won't be an issue.

The link above, is the horde base I use. Just a small 3 x 3 structure with 2 floors. Good for both single player and multi/ dedicated server play. It has it's own power for traps that require power. The walls are left open for purposes of shooting. Lots of traps in the way before they reach the walls. It's about 45 seconds to 1 minute away from my main base which is across a body of water, so never have to worry about my main base. It has been quite effective as long as I have been using this setup. I have chests inside for extra fuel and medical needs, also have a simple bed inside to save as a respawn point in case of death.

That's exactly what I do in most games of this type, because I invest a lot of time and effort into building a base and I really don't want to lose everything if the plan doesn't work or something goes wrong. I can only recommend this to everyone.

At the moment I have a 2x2 tower in the corner of the base that has a passage equipped with traps. However, in contrast to the 2x2, the corridor is outside the palisade and looks more like a long storage barn from the outside :D

The Tower in the base looks like an watchtower i like it and its functional. Theres no way from the Tower to the inside of the base, i have to go from outside by myself so my base is safe, even if the tower is defeated lol.
Before i simply had another small wall next to the base as fighting spot, but its more immersive if its IN the settlement.

i have used the chain link fences on the railway lines to funnel them

but deffo seperate base and dont respawn at main base mid horde night if you die, cos they come after you and trash it :( put a bed with kit in a bunker room in horde base

Yeah, you want to have wood spikes/metal spikes to do the brunt of the defense, and then more powerful traps at access points. Zombies will go around the spikes unless they can't figure out any other path to get to you.

I personally found it helpful to build very compactly. I have a main base that's (IIRC) 4 x 5. And across from it is the command center, which is nearly the same size. There's a 2 foundation wide street between them. The center has a 1 square buffer zone all the way around with cement & brick walls and it's own door. At some point I plan to build traps all the way around squares around the command center, as a backup defense.

Packed around that cluster is the canteen, rec room, and production buildings. Defenses are around the outside. I have streets criss crossing between them all. The whole things is built deliberately small, with gates, walls, and defenses around the outer wall. Very self contained.

Later on I plan to build a second layer with breeding pen, greenhouse, etc. And then more defenses around that.

Main thing with zombies is that they will usually take an open path to you (even if that path is full of spikes) rather than try to break through walls. I say usually because with the advent of ranged damage zombies they will start trying to attack you if they are in firing range rather than follow a path to you. I've also found after 0.0.7.0 (I think it was) that zombies tend to try break a wall if it is close to you whereas they used to always path around.

This is how my last iteration of a base looked. I built it adjacent to my NPC village so I could try to get them involved in the attack defence as well. It's kind of on the large side but it's completely separate from my actual base
