spot on advice,
i have 2 solar stations full with panels (a mix of 200+300),
they barely keep up with with the electric furnace, machine bench, 2 fridges and 8-9 lights running 24/7.
so i kick 2 fuel gens in over winter but tend to craft less then and that seems ok.
i have 6 indust batts and 2 120 in the batt rack.
id like to see a stat on the battery panel that showed charge and drainage values.
I read briefly about real solar panels, and what I read says that an 100 watt solar panel can output 10-20 watts on a cloudy day. That would be 10-20% effectiveness. So a full array of 9 panels that are 300 watts can put out 2700 watts. Getting 10-20% of 2700 watts isn't too bad. Better than nothing.
That's how the game Subsistence does it. Those partially lit days only partially charge your solar panels. I think that's a good system.
But they do work in winter... Slowly but they work.
