anywhere on the main island central would be best as this map is large and takes an age to get around it without a car

near a trader, getting repair kit from car is priority. military base for ammo

Good points, central location makes travel less expensive. There is more to consider.
Where do enemies spawn? Should be safe upon foundation somewhat apart from a village.
Need a well?
Somewhere was meantioned close to the ocean for sanity.

once you get a car, the gas is super easy to get and maintain. gas stations have like 5-6 barrels and all cars drop small amounts. can probably drive around the whole map on one tank.

Near Panorama mall.

Near the first spawn, up the hill there is a barn, zombies never around that area. Plenty of storage crates. Boarded up side entrances, very defensible position. There is a working well behind the 3 houses, downhill next to the road.
