there is no honor in gatekeeping these games behind corporate greed ; ♥♥♥♥ that noise
or watch a full-playthrough on YT or somewhere else , its certainly not the same as playing the game yourself , but at least you can appreciate some of the beauty that way ; imho VP has some of the best voice acting and character development even though the project ran into financial troubles and had to drastically cut/curtail so much of itself , we will never know what could have been , but even what we got was/is masterful [especially considering the time] ; very similar situation/scenario to Xenogears in that regard
If they wanted to do an action game, they could have just spun up a new Parasite Eve and maybe give it a more melee focus gameplay if they want to do melee stuff. That's another series that should make a comeback.
I had played the first Valkyrie Profile on PS1 20 years ago, it's good game, the characters designs and story are still top notch, but the rest are already kinda outdated by today's standard, and if you or anyone want to replay the first one, you can always buy it on mobile platform, it's not like the first game is forever unavailable.
I think this new Elysium is worth trying, I've already acquired my first warrior soul, I quite enjoy the game and have lots fun with it, the music is good, the girls are pretty, NO any woke garbage, the combat is a bit stiff but still enjoyable. Sure it's not super AAA title, but I'm not regret to buy and play this game at all. Nothing remorse.
To be sure, there have certainly been some notable exceptions, but it's not a coincidence that there's been so much more demand lately for remasters of RPGs from 20+ years ago that some IP holders have deemed them worth doing.
I never managed to play the second one, but Covenant of the Plume was a really well balanced Turn based tactics game in its deathless Route A that did a great job of capturing a dark but hopeful fantasy setting. It's probably my favourite game that came out of the DS era.
Pretty much this. The biggest mistake of the devs is not giving you at least 2 Einherjar from the start. Having to play solo with Valkyrie for a bit can be dull.
Once you start unlocking skills and more importantly the auto-summons that happen at the end of certain moves, the game starts feeling far more fun to play.
It's one of those where it has a bad start, but gets better as you go.
I had also the DS game, it was very very well written and somewhat good but the difficulty spikes (90% of very easy fights, then a nightmare fight) and time consumption were too much
Of course however if we compare to this game, it has clearly more work and refinment. I just did not finished any (on Lenneth, I went with perfect route which was a nightmare). Sad because I purchased a PSP for VP, the pictures and premises were very attractive.
Elysium is very addictive even if it feels pretty cheap. It was clearly not a real Valkyrie Profile game from day one announcement, no real surprise there.
