Normally I'd wait till having all the achievements before giving a review on something, but I have played this game and beaten it through multiple versions before it came out on Steam. Plus this was the first game I streamed, even make a lil guide on how to get a lot of the secret stuff. Dunno if some more exists within this version, but a lot of stuff did get updated. Anyways, onto the review.

Pros:

A good fangame, quite the high amount of love put into it to feel like a continuation of Season 1 that we all deserved. Shame season 2 was canceled. It has all of the cast within and has you journeying across familiar places, and after you save the Friends, familiar set-pieces fitting the Friends saved show up on the hub.

Gameplay is pretty simple and easy to learn, a lot of stuff can be hard to master but overall it shouldn't require thousands of hours to get things right. You get more moves as time goes on thus allowing some decent pace to familiarize yourself with the controls.

Plenty of ways to challenge yourself other than just increasing difficulty, with some bonus things to do as you progress through the game. A decent amount are secrets, so good luck.

Quite a decent size of characters to support you on the journey, a few of them will have unique dialogue should you bring them to certain places or have certain events happen. All of them have something unique about them, be it how they attack or just what passive support they bring to the table. Generally they fit the character.


Neutrals:

While it is a Beat 'em up of sorts, it doesn't really have the system of one. It is trying to be a mix of Mystery Dungeon and Beat 'em up, so some things don't let it flow perfectly as you can't really juggle an enemy or interrupt a good number of them.

Dialogue boxes are kinda weird in the game, if you run into too many Friends they begin piling up on the screen, which they do go away eventually, just it is kinda rough if you are just walking by. Getting someone to talk is also kinda weird at times since you don't really pause on them so you just have to keep slashing to see what they have to say.

Speaking of dialogue, some translations still seem a bit rough from what I have seen. Maybe I'd need a double-take on things, but they did seem a bit off at times. It is better translated than some others that cost money though, but it isn't perfect so you may see some issues.

Should really be something to buy all the lil tablets and shakes after you beat the game. You don't huge amounts of them sure, but having to just go finding them for when you do need them is a tad annoying.

Cons:

While gameplay is simple, there is the problem of some enemies just having too much of an advantage. Some enemies have attacks that you really can't dodge too well, as they aren't telegraphed. Sure you can fight these enemies without damage, but they can get pretty tanky and since it is a Mystery Dungeon Beat 'em up, the enemies will start piling up and make combat way too difficult.

One of the bosses is in a very small room that also has objects in it, making learning the fight and just playing through the fight difficult. Not impossible, obviously, but it still is very annoying.

Overall it has a lot of care put into it and it has been worked on for so long. I'd say it is the best Kemono Friends game that'll ever exist, and it is a fangame. It really has come a long way, I remember playing it way back when the debug room was there in the hub. Hope with it being on Steam will allow more people to notice it and enjoy it.

This free fan game feels like the season 2 that we should have got. There are some minor concessions made for game-play purposes but the games story continues subtly foreshadowed events in the original series while also including a few original additions to the Kemono Friends lore.

Despite what the title may imply, it's not quite Devil May Cry, it's more of an action-dungeon crawler with an emphasis on team building and item use. The game-play can take some time to get used to, and it's a while before you unlock some of the special moves that make the game really great, but there is a competent action game here with a lot to dig into and discover.

Better continuation of KF than S2 will ever be.
