We can sit here and argue all day long which one is best or worse... in the end, it changes nothing for us, as it's simply a tool for the devs.
What matters is how devs work with that tool. Both, Unity and UE5, have some pretty bad pop-in issues (when not well optimized). Mechwarrior Clans has huge amount of pop-in, it uses UE5.
Pop-in isn't engine-dependant as much as it is linked to how well the game is optimized. Will the devs force motion blur without giving us the option to toggle it? Many games running UE4/5 seem to lock into other settings, like an all-in-one post-processing. UE probably has what I consider to be the worst implementation of Motion Blur.
Personally, I believe and engine change is only good if they are efficient at moving from one tech to another. It can also be like a few steps back, as they have to learn to work with a whole new engine.
I just hope Subnautica 2 doesn't suffer from "streamlined" features because they don't know how to implement some things in a new engine.
The developers confirmed it will be built on UE5 over a year ago, it was one of the earliest known details.
