Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2

Which engine is being used?
I hope it's Unity like the other two Subnautica games.
I'm so tired of so many games using Unreal Engine and being a stutter fest...

what ue5 games? big ones or ones made by really small teams?

i have honestly had good performance out of UE games of late. Unity has been the bug fest for me.

That is nice to hear because UE5 can do native 7.1 surround sound. The only thing that in the other two installments missed. The atmosphere was fantastic but no native 7.1 sound? That was a bummer. I know that most gamers are using headsets nowadays, and that surround sound systems in gaming are still a niche thing, but with UE5 at least that will be available.

The original Subnautica had terrible pop-up distance draw problems, hopefully they have learned how to solve that problem (regardless of what hardware it's running on). I don't really care what engine it uses so long as the devs get the most out of it and the game runs well without obvious visual stutters etc. The game engine should be considered a starting framework which needs to be worked on just like the rest of the game mechanics.

Came here to check just that second after I've seen announcement.
First one was an excellent game let down by horrible Unity s*ty engine. Mobile games or student project engine not suited to open world games at all, single threaded, pop in galore, low viewing distance, struggling with high frame rate even on god tier hardware - literally junk of an engine.
Hope this using something serious like UE otherwise I'm not buying it.

Yeah its UE5 pretty much confirmed by devs on X.
That is great news, it is going to be epic as clearly devs and art director are very talented and that way engine will not compromise final product and will increase immersion.
It going to be glorious, I can feel it :happypug:

Mostly playing on tv with 7.1 here so yeah i'm very happy with how many modern games properly handle surround !

I'm surprised if any developers want to chance using Unity anymore after the company tried to introduce a fee retroactively for everytime one of their games gets installed.

if its ue5 its going to look pretty, but god that engine blows

i have not had any issues with UE5.
I have an overkill pc, so maybe thats why im not affected.
But its a good engine, so im happy they went for it.

Remnant II is a good example of games that run poorly on UE5. Tons of people had issues with it and it's gotten worse with DLC releases. I can brute force it but my system gets a little hot.

I think the issues with UE5 from what I've read are more so the Devs not knowing what they're doing or understanding how to use the Engine and less the Engine itself.
