Make it a silent protagonist, I beg you
The greatest aspect of Subnautica is always the gameplay. This is why immersion should be the number one priority, I don't want to learn about the 378 different gay relationships between crew members, I want to learn more about the creatures and secrets hidden in the depths. I want real lore that adds substance to the world and teaches me about how the world functions. I want the complexity and depth that makes the world of Subnautica feel more eerie and desolate, that is the kind of immersion that made the first game so great. Also, having less hostile creatures would be nicer, the overcrowded waters of SBZ took a lot of the scariness and unpredictability away, and became annoying very quickly.

Maybe some voice recorded logs or whatever but whatever it is just focus on tense exploration and freedom and scares :) Basically make it more like Sub 1 and less like below zero please :)
Yeah, I think we all would love to see that kind of approach to the story, it made everything more mysterious and it put the focus on the actual exploration and uncovering of secrets and new information about the planet. It would be cool to see that again.

+1 for silent protagonist

Protagonist needs to be silent.

And the narrative better be interesting like in the first game instead of the insufferable story of Below Zero.

Silent protagonist.
Focus on sandbox, not story.
No DEI or soft modern tripe.

Result: Be showered in money.

I agree, and I would love to see more ways of interacting with the different creatures, like gadgets or craftable items that use noise or a specific frequency to scare a certain type of creature away, and things like that that add some complexity to the way you handle each type of encounter in the game.
very much agree. maybe even a way to replicate a breeding call, to attract certain creatures that might give resources, be eaten, or kept in a base.

i recall them hiring new people for the story. they aren't that big of a company so i'm sure they'll take heed of at least the one biggest complaint with sbz. at least, i hope so

I feel like there should be a balance in that, and having creatures that are more hostile and territorial than others could be nice too. They could also add creatures that only react to your presence when you point a light at them, or creatures that try to attack you when you turn your back on them. Making them all extremely hostile on default whenever you're on sight makes it kinda annoying and repetitive.

I am willing to accept this as a compromise. I just want the overall aggression (which compared S1 was turned up to 11) to be less crazy than SBZ, in which everything seemed hyper-aggressive. There was no equivalent to the stalkers in SBZ from S1, which were kind of like sharkie-doggos.

Would be nice for the sea creatures to feel like actual sea creatures instead of generic 1 dimensional A.I.

Nah, having actual characters with a personality and a history of their own is what keeps me engaged and wanting to know more about where the story goes next. I've had more than enough blank slates, which are just there for boring people to use as a kind of self-insert, to last me a lifetime, thank you very much.

Also:

Thanks for highlighting exactly what your issue is, and that whole talk of "I just want lore about the creatures and the lore" (which is guaranteed to be there anyway, just like it was in the previous games) is just a flimsy smokescreen.

Let me guess, if this game had some derivative story about some guy having to save his girlfriend for the 348.587th time, you wouldn't be complaining about it, now would you? :smug:
You tell him sister! Everyone knows if you don't want to hear about gay interpersonal relationships while playing anything it's because you're a homophobe! #GayPrideWorldwide

You know, I like your attitude. If anyone disagrees with something I like in a game, I'll just declare they are a bigot, racist, sexist, or some other -ist or -ism so everyone knows I have the right opinion every time. :winkwinkkingsim:

they should just do sos/radio messages like in 1, they can do their voice acting without spoiling the atmosphere.

I have to agree, I don't think it would be an issue if the logs in S1 were voiced. Just so long as it was voiced by the S1 A.I. or was well done so it didn't break immersion.

That said, I do not trust the S team to do voiced anything, so probably best for the game to be mostly silent to maintain the games atmosphere.

That's so inclusive of you!

That exact regressive mentality and the excessive toxic posivity in the workplaces are what's keeping this industry back. Games were better when developers just wanted to make fun, entertaining and immersive games, not when people like you came in to disrupt the industry and make narrative and design choices just to piss off "the right people". Don't preach about diversity and inclusivity when you only want people like you to enjoy this hobby, you're just outing yourself as the narrow minded "bigot" here.

I just want this game to be as good as Subnautica 1 and preferably even better. The story in SBZ didn't make the game better, so I don't want see more of that, I want more of what makes the franchise unique.

It's amazing how these people demand that all media must proselytize their religion, and then call you the bigot for saying you prefer to just enjoy games instead of being preached and lectured too by activists.

On another note, it would be epic if a game took the premise of Subnautica and dropped you in the sea of Rapture (Bioshock) or SOMA.

God, if only. I swear these days whenever there are voiced NPCs, protagonist and a voiced story the game quickly ceased to be made for the players and starts being made purely for the developers instead.

totally agree, the second game's BZ's PDA having an accent was such a strange choice to me. the first one sounded robotic, sort of like a slightly more expressive version of the text to speech we have now. giving it an accent just felt unrealistic and pointless.

Less hostiles creatures? Big No. Make it dangerous and unpredictable.

The thing is, you can still keep the dangerousness and unpredictability while reducing the amount of hostile creatures. Like, I wouldn't mind a species that hunts in groups, but in BZ it felt as if every species hunted in groups, like the snow stalkers or the shark-like creatures who roamed around the island, those were the most annoying for me and completely took the unpredictability away.

I agree with you, but sadly all evidence is hinting towards more woke bs in this too
