Make it a silent protagonist, I beg you
The greatest aspect of Subnautica is always the gameplay. This is why immersion should be the number one priority, I don't want to learn about the 378 different gay relationships between crew members, I want to learn more about the creatures and secrets hidden in the depths. I want real lore that adds substance to the world and teaches me about how the world functions. I want the complexity and depth that makes the world of Subnautica feel more eerie and desolate, that is the kind of immersion that made the first game so great. Also, having less hostile creatures would be nicer, the overcrowded waters of SBZ took a lot of the scariness and unpredictability away, and became annoying very quickly.

Remember that it will have co-op, so i think it's very probable that your protagonist is silent. We just gotta see how co-op will be implemented

It's certainly possible, but given the way BZ was people are very concerned about the games future given the very poor and intentional character voice direction of Sub2 = BZ.

I completely agree that they should focus more on the game play, creatures, biomes, variety ,world interaction, exploration, building, etc. I loved playing Sub1 and while i did enjoy SubZ i'm more interested in making/developing my own characters story So HOPEFULLY they will have a Character Creation which would be dope. But I do also agree that I could care less about about any relationships any other survivors had the woke ideology has been getting shoved down gamers throats in recent games Dragonage being the most prominent. If anything offer choice like Baulders Gate did some people just dont care to have that kind of thing forced on them just so they can play a game when they enjoyed previous versions. Or force it and watch it completely tank like DA did.

Idk about all that yappin but survivor stories are a pretty big part of Subnautica. They tell a story of missed encounters, a story of others trying and failing to survive. Of how there were other people here and despite their best efforts, they failed. Take the two logs in Subnautica regarding three members of the Aurora's crew and how it told a horribly toxic story about them. Or the story of the Degasi survivors, and the relationship between father n' son.

Take the crew of the Mercury II. How guy n' gal tried keeping themselves safe in the reactor room, the man who missed his family and just wanted to go home, the captain who's driving force was money and her relationship with the crew. In fact, the only time I remember it not being fun to find PDAs was when it wasn't a survivor and it was mixed with like, 2-3 voiced entries.

If they do away with voiced entries or make them sparse again that'd be rad
My top 3 sins 🤢 of modern game development are:

1. extreme handholding

You aren't allowed to figure out anything on your own.
2-10 hour-long tutorials at the beginning of the game, which drain all the fun out of the game. They constantly tell you where to go next and what to do next via waypoints blinking constantly in your face, yellow paint on all the interactables and climbables and characters constantly narrating puzzle solutions, like in Forbidden West, or GOW: Ragnarok.

Critical Drinker made a pretty good video about this topic recently:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IOA_b4k2lQ

2. NPCs talking all the time 24/7

In older games, your player had complete agency.
You could decide when you want to talk to NPCs, by walking up to them and initiating a dialogue on your own terms, via pressing a button. And if you didn't do that, they left you alone, for the most part and you could do your own thing.

Nowadays, you have those stalker-type NPCs running around with you, or video calling you all the time and voice line spamming you every 10 seconds about some nonsense or Marvelesk banter. How are you supposed to immerse yourself into the world if some NPC is constantly screaming in your ear:

- Hey, pick up that ammo.
- Hey, you have to go that way.
- Hey, maybe you should do X to solve the puzzle.
- Hey, let's talk about my feelings.

3. MTX, live-service, battle/season passes and online gambling

Don't have to say much about this.
Josh Strife has said everything that needs to be said about it in his YT video:

Not to mention the "Gaming as a service" con that has been pushed pretty hard over the past few years to try and subvert the right of players to own the products they purchase by trying to legally redefine them.

The "subverting the rights of the player" thing isn't new though? Ever since people could start buying games online and not physically they've never owned a game. They're essentially buying the key to the game, and the key can be revoked at any time. Its absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥, but it isn't new in any way

Even if your character is silent, they still could have highly annoying characters in the game, like Al-An, voice line spamming you every few minutes via telepathy or radio calls, which would absolutely destroy atmosphere and immersion.

You mean those skippable interactions that pop up a few times a play session? The horror!

In Subnautica 1 they did it right, most of the storyline was outsourced to optional PDA files.
And even most of the radio calls were optional. You decide when, or if you want to play them.

Only a handful of most important story aspects got broadcast over radio.

In Below Zero it was actually horrific:

The sad thing is that Subnautica 1 was good on accident.
I think it was Cleveland who stated in an interview that if they would have had more funding for Subnautica 1, the protagonist would not have been silent.

I did a recent playthrough and it really wasn't. What was horrific was the amount of voiced PDAs in a room. But I'd run around, do some exploration/farming. Hop in the sea truck, listen to AL-AN yap about something, and keep going. Your complaint of "when or if you want to play them" seems odd, as the only times AL-AN speaks to you without asking is when building him, downloading him, or scanning something. The first two are story elements, and the final is basically an alternate PDA voice.

I want you to understand that while your opinion is yours, and valid, it's a minority view.

Below Zero is reviewed Very Positive. So while some people don't like a voiced protagonist and plot, a lot of us do.

What is a minority view ?

Liking Subnautica 1 more than Below Zero , or disliking Below Zero in general ?

I think that most people like Subnautica 1 more than Below Zero is just a fact, it also has better reviews on every review site.

It's totally fine to like bad content.
We all do that, once in a while.

Many people like Daily Soaps, Fast & Furious, Call of Duty,..... food from McDonald's.

To be more generous to the other user, while I agree it was bad, it may be better to call it Niche since it did well among its much smaller player base than Sub1.
