Perfectly fine by me over bad character designs. Leave it up to the imagination is a better option, though we all know that's not going to happen given the companies obsession with bad character designs.
Lastly, how are the characters breaking immersion? They appear to be in the typical diving gear we've seen in previous games, operating a vehicle with an aesthetic similar to Alterra
Plus, personally. I feel like the two characters we've seen look kind well, regular people. Kind of cute. But not ugly, not super models
Thanks for your input, so for your questions, they look very cartoonish imo, very bland and un-appealing, not memorable, dosent look like "bad-asses" if you get my vibe.
They look like teenagers out of a TikTok vid, not like some space travelers that happened to crash on a distant planet and are now forced to explore its seas to survive... they look like they have been dropped on the planet rather than have any "survival" elements to them, which kinda made them though.
Maybe its just me, but i ask myself those questions when i see characters in game, "How did they get to a space ship ? (in order to crash on the planet), do they fit the space traveler vibe imo? do they look strong and though as i would want my character to be ? or do they look silly and cartoonish which is immersion breaking for me.
Chances are they have intentionally landed on that planet, chances are you will not be playing either one of them.
The characters from the cinematic trailer have never been the player character.
I find it funny that you believe that only bad-asses can be lucky and have their radio break. Ryley was a glorified janitor.
Does Ryley look like a badass to you?
They appear to be certainly less cartoon themed than the protag of Subnautica.
EDIT: Fixed phrasing
I hope they're an empty shell as well. I don't wanna get interrupted talking to my friends by the character we're playing as. Especially considering there's a high chance we won't be near eachother
just an ocean with fishes
How will you ever survive this?
To be honest, it's quite weird seeing the rightie poutrage about this. I thought the grievance was "forced diversity which is shown by shoving it into places where it doesn't make sense". But this is Subnautica, where all the main characters have been diverse. Ryley is asian, Robin is black. One of the previous survivors in Subnautica before the Auroras crash was I believe a Hungarian crew.
Then there's the complaints of "they don't look human" which, also seems weird. Not just because there's various art styles that depict humans in different ways, but also that they look noticeably more human than Ryley looks. It's just so obviously manufactured outrage at anything not white
