I'm a huge Atelier fan. How much would I like this game?
I've played all of the Atelier games from Atelier Iris onwards to Atelier Ryza 3. Atelier Sophie 2 is my favourite, while Atelier Ryza is my least favourite in the series. If this game is comparable to Atelier games, which game is it closest to?

So while this game has a crafting system, it's not integral to the game itself the way it is in the Atelier games. The similarities are going to be superficial at best. In this game, your crafting is predominantly just for creating stat boosting items or healing items. The game doesn't feature any leveling and character growth is instead accomplished through permanent stat buffing items, upgrading equipment, and training at home.

The combat itself is, if I had to pick something to be closer to, would be Shin Megami Tensei, but the game is far more forgiving than Shin Megami Tensei.

It's atelier only in that it has collecting materials and crafting with a cauldron. Otherwise it's more of a typical jrpg.

Though. OP above is a bit wrong. There are levels, but they are few 1-5 levels in each type of unique-combat encounters, strength training and magic training. There is also two staffs with multiple 3-4 and options 3 each, and some other weapons with one upgrade.

Will note that this is by far the most charming game i've played this year. And the the flow for gridining stuff outside of one mid-game item (with too long cooldown and you need multiples of) is really smooth.

Has a similar vibe and feel to the Atelier games, though with higher stakes and a darker feel (especially later on after Pieberry grows up) than most Atelier storylines outside of the Dusk and Iris trilogies.

There isn't the complex crafting and min-maxing of individual items that are present in Atelier, but you have a similar collection-crafting-stat boosting (via training) loop. You have the same level of satisfaction of getting stronger and then taking out these high powered minibosses you can encounter early.

I personal feel WitchSpring R is a bit closer to Ni no Kuni than Atelier, if you liked that one. Collecting pets (a set group of around 20) feels like getting special familiars in Ni no Kuni, and they both have the same "view through a child's eye" approach to darker story topics.
