what to do with the fox den golem?

You got to craft the Fox orb thing, then use it on the statue.

how do you do that? I've yet to find a crfting list for the statue. there is only one chest in the chamber with the green foxes? so where to i find the crafting guide?

The book should be in that den itself, then go back home and you'll find the orb to craft I think in the items part?

Afterwards, go to the statue and use the orb from the inventory.

I checked, that chest contains the recipe to make the orb.

I think it is that fox essence thing you get from defeating the smaller foxes.
