What tool do I need to cool the handle of the Sun Sword?

After defeating lava malt deep in the lava caves, there was a piece of a sword in his chest, you can pull it out if you have a tool. I didn't have it and don't know what I need. Going to look around and hopefully find a water variant.

I have it, if I remember correctly I used the ice core from aesir. Aesir is the boss in ludina's grave in the snow cave

I used the ice heart from the old yeti. I don't know if using a stronger item results in a stronger sword but I found the sun sword to be very weak compared to the lightning blade
