Game can't make it to title screen on Steam Deck
which doesn't make sense, given this game is labeled as "verified" for deck, so I don't understand what's happening here. it can load the splash screens well enough, but then after that the screen goes black and i see the black bar at the bottom of the screen with "steam menu" and "abort game"

what's going on??

Not a clue, it runs great on Steam Deck.

You can try the usual reboot, reinstall, etc. Also make sure there are no weird tweaks or settings with the ... button in game.

Sadly I don't have a solution, but the problem isn't just you. I'm having the same issue.

I found a solution! Open the game's page in your library, go to the gear on the right side, go to Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool," and pick GE-Proton7-51.

I'm using default compatibility and it works fine on my end, launched the very first time I tried, but a lot of games have weird issues like this. Make sure you're on the stable system update channel in case that's the issue, and also make sure you're on the latest hotfix patch.

I have no idea what they meant by that, I also don't have that? From googling it sounds like a third party addition. Try Proton Experimental though and see if that helps any.

My bad, didn't realize it wasn't included as standard. Here's the GitHub page for it.[github.com] The easiest way to install it is to switch to Desktop Mode, open Discover (the app with the blue shopping bag icon), and install ProtonUp-Qt.
In ProtonUp-Qt, click Add Version, pick "GE-Proton7-51," and click Install. (Other versions may or may not work.)

It does not run on Linux Desbian either, Black Screen with music playing.
I am on the experimental Proton, even the older versions do not work.
Getting a refund.

This has to be the only one game not working on Linux in the last 5 years. I guess the DEVs are too lazy to attract the 10% of modern gamers.

Had no issues running on Arch Linux. Try switching to the Steam Deck Beta branch. It's in the settings and you can revert back if it doesn't work.

I just did with the same result. You are right, it must be SH1TVIDIA as usual.
My next GPU is gonna be AMD

with all due respect, you are looking at this entirely wrong: firstly, the requirements state win10/win11, so "working on linux" is not something the devs need to concern themselves with, they are, explicitly, targeting windows. However, there is no need for the devs to do otherwise, that is because proton allows for the majority of games developed for windows to function perfectly fine on linux (if fact, they may even function better than they to on the targeted platform). Secondly, this "10% of modern gamers" is entirely a *product* of proton, developers do not need to do anything in order for their games to run on linux, and it is for this reason that a "10%" exists. I consider that a positive sign, and the fact that you say that this is the "only [...] game not working on Linux in the last 5 years", suggests that my positivity is warrented, as I read that as you saying "it mostly works" ... before you then move to dump on the developers for it not working in this particular instance, glass 0.00001% empty I guess?

So, it's software, there will be corner cases were proton doesn't work, that is to be expected, but that is not a reflection on the devs in this case.

I am a low-level dev myself and fixing a problem like that would take me 1 day to fix. Maybe they dont' need another 4% of customers? Maybe they don't need moeny because they get free money from the governement for being WOKE?

That assumes you know what the issue is, and whether it is something specific to the game or to the particular release/version of proton selected. I think the most you can say is that it's not working for *you* ... for some reason or other. In my case (on a steamdeck OLED) I bought the game yesterday, installed it this morning, switched compatibility to GE-Proton7-51 (as user Kiro Osex suggested above), and had no issues whatsoever. You've since refunded, which you have every right to do, so don't have the option to see if the Glorious Eggroll proton release resolves your specific issue ... that would have taken less time than it took for you to write your post ... certainly less than your "1 day" estimation.

No, they get money directly from George Soros for the sole purpose of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with YOU and causing you to go on a murderous gun rampage ... it's THAT simple.

Glad I was able to help someone!

ProtonUp-Qt does not run on the latest Desbian and does not run on Ubuntu 24.

I am done with PC Laming, I am returning to consoles.
