OK, what does Penny need all my information for?
Opening a game like this into a massive list of all the data you're collecting on me is off putting.

Saw this on boot as well, it lists a massive amount of specific data it's grabbing from you (ranging from gameplay data and account info, to data from open programs, chat logs, exact location information, etc.)

It's a single-player game, what could they possibly need all that data for?
SneakyBeat Feb 22, 2024 @ 2:53pm
Expect it in everything from now on, companies want data to sell to A.I companies.

Considering a refund if that's the case, waiting for more info though since the game just came out.
snackerfork Feb 22, 2024 @ 8:01pm
Going through three separate EULAs for this is hugely concerning regardless of whether it uses that data or not, but it seems you can just disable the program in your firewall (or block it) and it works fine.

I heard about this but hoped it wouldn't be super excessive. Hearing this makes me reconsider buying this game on PC. "Vote with your wallet" and all that. Hopefully they make a GOG version without all of this or just patch it out. This type of stuff should really have no place in a single player game.
snackerfork Feb 22, 2024 @ 10:00pm
I completely agree but EULAs are overbroad legalese on purpose, and two of them are from TakeTwo (the publisher.) This *is* an indie game made after Sega screwed over the Mania devs so I don't think they should be punished for scummy publisher mandates.
eispfogel Feb 22, 2024 @ 10:10pm
I refunded the game...not only is it crashing on AMD GPUs, but the crashlog contains stuff, that they shouldn't collect(One Drive Contents, Emulator Folders...some registry entries ...why do they need Infos about Need for Speed?) and all that other data collection...my god...as if i sold my soul.

Too bad..a Singleplayergame that collects so much data...i don't want this.
snackerfork Feb 22, 2024 @ 10:44pm
It's reading the contents of your document folders? Jesus.

I agree, it is completely insane and makes me want to refund the game. It's bad enough my 7900 XTX hard locks because of something in the game, but those damn pages should only show up once then never again.

I don't get it either why of all the games would an indie title like this have such insane EUL's and data collection?

They should remove it ASAP. I think a dev or rep should say something very soon or I will return it and others should be concerned as well and follow suit.

Would you mind clarifying something for me? What do you mean by a crash log? I intentionally crashed the game by spamming resolution changes but I didn't see any references to data collection or files/folders in there. Do you mean the visual studio dump?
COLIN THA DUDE! Feb 23, 2024 @ 1:13am
Yeah sucks for the devs but I'm not supporting a publisher that requires my exact location and ♥♥♥♥ size.
Refunded it the second I saw this EULA.
edit: pretty confident this breaks EU UK DPA laws (gathering excessive/unnecessary data even with """"consent"""" is still against common understanding of the act)

I refunded the game, but i kept my Crashlog(penny.dmp - it crashed often since i use an AMD system and pressing jump crashed the game...or crashed it..i refunded it..)
I will post some things, that this will collect:

It lists more stuff from Emulators.

I guess it would be enough if they just collect the system components, Windows Version and this:

I won't dig deeper into it. It isn't a full system and memory dump...but it's enough.

Yikes, I hate to refund an indie game like this but Take-Two's really committing to a huge privacy violation here. Looks like I have a couple weeks to make the refund so I might wait to see if there's any update before then.
KyoStarr Feb 23, 2024 @ 7:51am
Is there a way for us to block this currently? Would setting Windows Defender to block the game from connecting to the internet prevent Take Two from collecting our data?
COLIN THA DUDE! Feb 23, 2024 @ 8:23am
probably but I ain't supporting this
