Should the Wheel be Connected when Installing the Game?
After many repeated problems with the wheel T300RS and TH8 shifter, I have decided to uninstall WRCG and reinstall it clean while AVG Antivirus is disabled.
Now I wonder: Should the wheel and shifter be plugged in during the installation and before the first run of the game or should I connect them only when the game is already running?
The reason why I decided to reinstall clean is that, after configuring the wheel, I could nicely play while the game was running. Once I close the game it would always crush at restart. The only way to have it restarted was to disconnect the wheel and all add-ons, start the game and then plug the wheel and do the configuration again. Any suggestion is most welcome.

While waiting for a patch, we recommend that you connect your wheel after launching the game.
For Thrustmaster steering wheels :

We know of a crash issue at game’s launch on Thrustmaster wheels and are working on a fix.
Please follow the below suggested steps first to see if it helps:

1. Always make sure driver and firmware are up to date: https://support.thrustmaster.com

2. Try another USB port, and by preference one at the back of the PC on the motherboard.

3. Try to disable Steam Input (in the Steam library, right click on the game, properties, then controller and disable Steam input)

4. You can force WRCG to use DirectInput, bypassing manufacturer's specific API:
a. In the Menu : Option , Gameplay, Configure, Enable
Thrustmaster Wheel API
b. In the %USERPROFILE%\Documents\MyGames\WRCG\UserSettings.cfg file by
settings Engine.Input.EnableTMSDK = 0

Also, may you please send us your DXDiag.txt and WRC.logs at the following email adress: wrcthegame@bigben.fr , so that we can have a better understanding of the issue? Thanks.

I had similar issues after 10 hours, my t300 went all messed up. I clicked the delete data after many failed attempts at creating new controller profiles. Also found that the game would crash at startup if I had my th8 plugged in.

Did the "delete data" solve the problem for you?
I have just reinstalled the game but with no improvement. Again I have to unplug the wheel before restart and set it up. If the delete data worked for you I will try it too.

From the pinned thread:

For Logitech or Thrustmaster steering wheels, you can force WRC Generations to use DirectInput, bypassing manufacturer's specific API:
a. In the Menu: Option -> Gameplay -> Configure -> Enable Logitech Wheel API or Enable Thrustmaster Wheel API
b. In the %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\WRCG\UserSettings.cfg file by settings Engine.Input.EnableTMSDK = 0, Engine.Input.EnableLogiSDK = 0

At least it has worked for you at some point... I can't get my T300 to work even after all the troubleshooting done, hope they come up with a patch soon... I'm getting tired of waiting for a fix

from a coders view, always put in device(wheel, shifter), then start the game. Dont tkae it away until you close the game. If you do it that way and still have problems, then its the fault of developer

Thanks!
Normally, I never disconnect my devices. However, WRSG crashes at start if the devices are connected. That's why I wondered. For the time being, I don't ever close the game or shut down the PC. I just put it to sleep.

Have you tried just having the wheel and pedals plugged in, no shifter? This game doesn't seem to like handbrakes and shifters being plugged in.

As soon as the wheel is connected the game crashes at startup.
Now I am following this procedure: I unplug the wheel and leave the shifter and handbrake connected while starting the game. When the game is up and running, I connect the wheel and then follow a dosen steps to get it all working. Once I got used to it, the whole procedure takes about 5 minutes.
Y-day, instead of closing the game and shutting down PC, I put it into Sleep mode. It worked fine. After waking PC up. my WRCG was working with all the controllers working fine. That worked 3-4 times. the 5th time I put it to sleep, it restarted on its own after a short time. Since then, my PC would not sleep any more. So now I am following the procedure described above.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
