- If you don't like it, learn Japanese and play in Japanese. It'll take 2-3 years but you'll be set for life.
- I'd rather it releases like this than no Western release at all.
- Blue Reflection Second Light had to pull the same trick too, the times are changing.
No they're not. These changes aren't organic, they're forced.

Two things are at play here. The 18+ requirement is more or less a hard check for the ability to sell the game in many countries, and the other stuff is just CYA to make any potential legal action harder.
It's less that most people don't have a solid separation of fantasy and reality (the #1 thing that we should be looking for when trying to identify people who are dangerous to society, IMO), but that the ones who do are always quick to scapegoat media they consumed in the hope of reducing their punishment when they inevitably do something crazy.
Did you forget how 90's hentai that got localized always changed dialog to pretend that the schoolgirls were college students? I remember how La Blue Girl had deleted scenes because they depicted minors that couldn't be b*llshited away with "they're totally adults, legit".
Even if you know Japanese, you still end up supporting them and their bs, unless you import a Japanese copy of the game.
It's just that after decades of playing japanese games, as someone who feels strongly about translation, I'm a bit tired of all the mindless liberties localizators take with scripts and characters.
