The goal the devs said was to make sure the game sessions are kept "short" so you have more time to upgrade your meta-upgrades (Cat, Acid Fog, Lightning Strike, Mender, Part Spawner, Teleporter, etc) Since this game is similar to those like Vampire Survivors (play a bit, die, upgrade and get stronger, retry again, see if you get further)
That's such a cheap design choice.
If you are not past this gold threshold for upgrades between games, you are guaranteed to lose.
If you are past this gold threshold for upgrades between games, you are very likely to surpass it mindlessly.
Good to know my early runs are rendered invalid no matter what parts RNG blesses me with, because the magic dragon will destroy all my lizards and anything else in seconds, and can't be taken down with acid. What a stupid choice made by the developers.
I suspect that the intention was to stop people from slowly clearing each circle and instead use meta unlocked parts to spawn strong monsters from portals to try and acquire more progression before the next grade of spawner kills you off.
I cleared through the first wave super easy just by getting the lightning spell. I didn't feel much success, felt cheap.
I tried on a no meta upgrade game and watched the spawner slaughter a full 7 undead squard in a single wave. I even had a hybrid with harpy weapons but without the equivalent speed it got slaughtered.
Easy to take down with a upgraded lightning spell or lightning+poison.
Later mobs are tougher.
About 1/2 way through the meta purchases, especially blueprint quality, the game gets too easy.
