Question Regarding Deductions/Mystery Solving
I know this game is a remake of an older title from the 2008, so I wanted to ask how this compared to the more recent Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games. Specifically, what I wanted to ask is how does solving mysteries work in this game: Does the player have to find evidence to reach several possible conclusions, and it is up to the player to identify the correct one, or is there only one possible ending for each mystery that is automatically reached, and the player never has to compare competing theories?

The game uses the mechanics and structure of C&P on (mainly Chapter One's take on those ideas), but there is only one way forward (choices present are either character flavor or for cheeky achievements). The mind palace this time around is used to put together clues you gather to figure out how you continue forward, removing the guessing work from the usual adventure game puzzle formula (or at least streamlining it).

There's a score system that unlocks cosmetics, models to view, and concept art, and you get bonus score for getting a mind palace question solved in one try, so while you can brute force, it feels more enjoyable to nail it in one go.

So in other words, the system from C&P is still in the game, where the player can reach multiple conclusions, but unlike that game, the correct choice needs to be selected in order to advance to the next case? If so, what happens if the player collects all the evidence for the wrong conclusion: Does the game automatically state that the individual is the wrong suspect before the player even makes an input, or does the game tell the player that they failed to identify the correct criminal only after the player selected a prompt stating something along the lines of "I think this person did it"?

You don't compare competing theories. You find evidence, reconstruct the crime scene, maybe confront people with said evidence. But confrontations can't fail, you just do it again and again until you pick the right evidence. Using the mind palace, you can just keep picking the choices until the question is answered. You might need to find all evidence to get the mind palace working., which means going back to explore. There is only one conclusion for all investigations, you're just doing all the tasks to expose it.

That is a shame, as having to actually reach the correct conclusion without the story guiding the player was my favorite part of Crimes & Punishment, as few other detective games gave the player that liberty. That said, between the circumstances this game was developed under, and also being a remake of a more linear game, I am not surprised to hear this. Thank you for your help.

What I find completely messed up is that Watson has the same deduction and observation skills as Sherlock Holmes. It's just lazy gameplay.
