Play Chapter One before this or not?
I liked all the Sherlocks but I skipped Chapter One because it seemed to not have hit the target (I would not mind the open world setup, as long as the game is good obviously). Many negative reviews.

I am thinking to play that one as well (Chapter One) but then....is it even needed before playing Awakened ? Probably not right?

Anyway if you are in this discussion group, means you played at least one other Sherlock (not necessarily but very likely). Would you recommend playing Chapter One or better skip it altogether (even if there are things in Awakened referring to events of Chapter One).

I would consider playing The Sinking City, bc this one will feel more like it

In my opinion, you can skip chapter one. Some story based things may be of importance, but those can be looked up if needed. Gameplay wise, after playing the demo, it is similar to chapter one.

I don't think playing "Chapter one" is really necessary to enjoy this one, but since that game was a turning point in rewriting the story of Sherlock Holmes, I think it's recommended.

Previous Sherlock Holmes games featured a much narrower story and much closer to canon than "Chapter One" did. This game was a total re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes and hopefully "The Awakened" will continue with the story we saw in "Chapter One" (Despite also being a remake of the previous "Awakened"),

Also, "Chaper One" wasn't such a bad game. It failed in some action sequences that are actually quite complementary and came with some optimization issues, but overall it's a huge sandbox with hundreds of quite entertaining cases, and hides an infinite number of winks and references to those of us who love Sherlock.

Without a doubt it was much better than "The devil's daughter" was, if you can assume that it is a totally new reinterpretation of the character and accept the licenses, I think it deserves a chance to be played and that it will be enjoyed by all of us who like the franchise ,

Honestly, Chapter One was a pretty good game. There was definitely some newer concepts that Frogwares was playing around with where the execution could have been better, like some aspects of the (skippable) combat system. (Also the combat isn't bad for what the goal of it is, but being the good guy and not, y'know, murdering people in it is significantly harder than just going for the kill) But personally, I liked it a lot better than the Devil's Daughter and some of their other older games. It's just not on the level of triple A open world games, which makes sense considering Frogwares is definitely not that. Personally, I liked to see them trying new things and them making the more radical newer concepts being optional in order to grow and improve, it's good to see a gaming company actively trying to learn, grow, and change with the times and improve their skills.

That being said, I don't think you need to play Chapter One to enjoy and understand this game, but they will at least reference details in it in the Awakened. For instance, in the demo, if you look at a painting in the dumbwaiter room, Sherlock will mention Vogel, who was a character in Chapter One. If you really don't want to play it, however, you can just look up what Jon's whole deal was, which is really the part that might get brought up in any significance. There's also a chance Sherlock's mother could get brought up too, but if you look that up, understand that part contains MAJOR story spoilers for Chapter One.
