Enlightenment Tower Chest Key (missing)

I have beaten Enlightenment Tower and married Duke Kang's daughter. However, the chest at the top floor of Enlightenment Tower is locked, and it says I need the "Enlightenment Tower Chest Key" to unlock it.

No clue where the key is, or how to get it. Was curious if anyone had run into this or knew if this was available after completing the tower?

P.S. There is a chance I completed the tower on an earlier patch - would this chest key be added AFTER I completed the tower, making it impossible for me to open?

Iirc, you get the key after you beat the sht out of Tong Daofu iirc

If you use a save game from that long ago, you bound to have a bug or two. If you have inherited the Imperial Seal from the previous game and met Sakuhara at the tea stall could possibly despawn Tong Daofu.

The chest key is dropped from defeating Tong Daofu, which is located at the top of the tower. You will also need to have sufficiently high machinery skill, as the chest is also trapped.

The most important content of the chest is the purple-tier Seal of the People. You can check if you have that in your inventory already. The condition for marrying Lady Fu Qing (Duke Kang's sister) is to trade the seal to Duke Kang, if you don't have it in your inventory, you may want to check Duke Kang's inventory (by trading with him). If you have the seal or it's with Duke Kang, you can safely skip the chest.

I can think of four purposes of getting the Seal of the People:

1) To use it as an accessory itself (which you can skip)

2) To combine with the other seals, making the Imperial Seal, for use as an accessory (which you can consider to skip)

3) To use it for marrying Lady Fu Qing (which you have already done)

4) For the Emperor's ending

If you really need to achieve the Emperor's ending and you can't find the Seal of the People, you may consider to use my save file[www.nexusmods.com] to get the Imperial Seal as your last resort.

Thank you both for the replies! So essentially I looked it up, I last played August of 2023, so nearly year ago (before 1.0) so it makes sense that my save may be a bit out of whack.

I have married Kang's daughter (Lady Fu Q), but the seal of the people isn't found on Kang or my inventory, and the chest is still locked. I definitely defeated Tong Daofu but again that was 9 months and several patches ago.

As long as it doesn't prevent me from achieving a true ending (doesn't seem like so), I will power through and finish this run. Still my first run :)
