Are there enough chests to grind Machinery w/o joining Confucius?

I recall reading somewhere that there's just enough chests n training to grind machinery to 5 but I can't remember if this means joining Confucius?

Previously I never bothered but I am now wondering if it is worth it to take the trouble.

yep, i think machinery is the easiest skill to upgrade to 5

I got it pretty high though not maxed out, but was my first time playing through so wasn't careful about saving chests until I could machine them.

The crafting skills were the ones that were giving me the most trouble, couldn't find many blueprints to buy for making stuff to grind.
Do you have to join Sects to get access to them? Stuck to the the 'default' old man sect and never tried switching out to another.

So, the night watchmen in each city will teach you 100 Machinery, pretty sure there's a guy in the Blue Bandit camp that teaches machinery too. If you comb every corner of the cities, you'll find hidden chests that you can unlock. All you need to do is get your machinery to 4 (I say that, and it took me forever to get from 3 to 4 cause I wiped out the Blue Bandits before even thinking about machinery), then the prison doors (all three cities plus the crime bureau), and the chests in that one long forgotten temple, will push you up to 5.

confucious wheelchair guy no longer gives 1800 machinery. He gives 1800 immobilize with the v1 update.

Aaaha... yeah, I am not part of confucius so I have no access to the temple quest. I did get the 1,600 xp from Tomb Raiders n the Water Sect, plus the 300 from the night watchmen.

i hear you can kill the night watchmen and they will eventually respawn a new one a week later. Then you can train again. I've never tried it though.

in lin'an city region, on that sect that is in the middle of the water(u get there by boat in the port) there is a npc that gives another 1600 the rest just open chests. i think the longevity tomb one gives u enough to go from lv 4 to 5 instantly

once you max a skill you keep it max for all the following play through. you will have to play the long game to max it for a save, since you will have to wait opening some chests for when you reach the appropriate level but i think it is worth it. same goes for all skills. There are accessories that doubles exp gain for most skills but idk if they released one for machinery yet. Personally i made it to 5 without joining the confucius, the secret is to never use an item to open a chest
