First of all, it's very important when you reach the Nameless Village by day to talk to Bao Dating and ask him multiple times about rumors. He has a pool of rumors which he will sadly, cycle through, some are very important as they unlock stuff, others are less important to downright useless. Among the almost mandatory ones:
-Bao will talk about, I think the name is, Laliang temple, a place where a man lives who does mediation between sects. The location is unlocked by listening to the rumor. As the rumor for it is VERY random it's very easy for new players to miss it as you can have to talk to him for 10 good minutes without getting the right rumor even if you know what you want. This temple is quite important because it has a chest which contain an XP scroll giving a lot of xp early on, speeding up the learning process of martial arts greatly, and boosting your level. You want both.
-He will talk about a Crossroad in the north west, opening a location. More on that in a bit.
-He will talk about a glowing text appearing in the dillapided temple. This text will only be accessible once the intro girl you chose to help is gone(after the 3 days duration and the combat of you helping her). It's a purple level fist martial art. Even if you don't use it yourself(as in, you don't use fists), your allies will benefit from it.
-Optionnal that you don't need, Bao will also reveal the bandit camp location. You don't want to go there until the "end" of your stay at the Nameless Village, more on that too
About the free stat point:
Going to the Crossroad during the day will trigger a scene where the story teller at this location is reading a story, and bandits attack the audience. It is important to note that this particular scene, and not an other, will play ONLY if you haven't wiped the bandits yet, so it's VERY important to not touch the bandits until you have gotten it. If you fail to trigger it because you were rushing your training with the Old Man and went to wipe the bandit camp as soon as he asks, it will play a different scene if you go there, and this one WON'T give you a stat point.
The scene you want will have you meet Ye Yinping, and you will feel a bit scared about the confrontation. You will have plenty of dialogue choices like "Looks intimidating", "Try to look innocent so they don't bother you", etc. Each one is assosciated to a stat, and you will get a stat point that matches your answer. If possible try the option to look scary/intimidating/brave for strength, but you can also go for others that give dex or con. Those are the 3 important stats in my opinion, but I would say strength is probably the most important.
About the treasure:
First you need to rescue the bandit in the lost forest, he will attack you, forcing you to beat him up, but he will reveal the rumor about the treasure. After that, right of the Elder house, there is a bunch of stacks of wood(not trees, stacks of wood). One has even a axe sitting on it. Going into combat, you can use techniques on them and break them. Behind is a chest which you need to crack or open with a key(if possible, ALWAYS crack chests, it trains machinery, and you want it maxed asap). This contains the treasure map. The spot marked on the map is at the left, a clearing with 4 boars in it, right next to where you met the brigand(there is also a chest under it, next to a tree you can cut wood from). It contains 1500 gold, which is useful for multiple reasons.
Gold routing and why you need plenty:
You are going to need a bunch of gold because you want to give gift to some people in order to recruit them or get good prices for them, and in general make the village love you for a reward. In no particular order you want:
-To recruit the Doctor, using tea
-To recruit the Hunter, using appliances(bowls)
-To recruit the Innkeeper, using cosmetics(Use the peony you find in the forest as an accessory to boost gift effects)
-To recruit Bao Dating, using romance books. But leave him at the village, he's the worst possible party member of the bunch.
-To get robbed by the beggar for 500 gold, to get a plaster from him, to beat him up, to forgive him, and then to recruit him with food. If you have at least basic cooking, you can also cook for him and will get the roasted potato recipe(but lower innskeeper's affection a bit)
-To follow the blacksmith quest until he asks you to pay his debt. His debt is a whopping 2000 gold! You want to make sure you have enough for that. Thankfully beating the crossroad brigands and completing the fight at the temple will give you a bunch, but you will need more. 1500 golds for the treasure at least will contribute 3/4 of that. Reason why you want to pay his debt, and not have the Innskeeper cancelling it for free, is because paying it will give you an accessory that gives increased lumberjacking XP when worn. Very important to make maxing lumberjacking less of a chore, and the accessory provides 120 attack and defence, which is quite good!
-Making enough people love you in the village, including the Elder, will make him give you a reward and tell you about the secret room under a jar in the left room of his house. He will also, more importantly, give you the key for the main treasure inside, which you absolutely want(those are in limited number in the whole game, Dragon Keys).
The bandit camp:
Having defeated the bandits at the crossroad, wait a bit until the Elder tells you Xiao was kidnapped. Then and only then, should you wipe the camp when the Old Man also tells you to. The battle will be harder there than if you just stormed the camp, as you are trapped inside in the middle of the enemies, but you will get a better reward, as rescuing the kid will raise the opinion of the whole village quite a bit. Also, don't forget to break the crate the boss is sitting on, it has a key in it.
The tree:
As mentioned, the thunder struct tree at the center of the village gives legendary wood when destroyed. If you are a new player, keep that piece of wood around, it will be important later to recruit the best healer in the game. It's not mandatory, but doing her quest prior to recruiting her will give her her best special skill. That wood is less important in future runs as you will have your Homestead maxed, and you can cut some in the mountain at the back of it, which is actually preferable.
The goose:
There is one goose which talks, I think you may need a certain level of Best Tamer to talk to it, but it will challenge you to a fight, and once beat, ask for 5 fishes of blue quality(it will tell you which one). Giving it the fishes gives you the goose feather accessory, boosting fishing xp. The feather also has good stat boosts, being purple level.
It's also worth nothing that maxing a skill is quite important during your first(s) runs as once a skill is maxed once, it will remain maxed in all subsequent playthroughs. This means you won't have to grind them again to max ever again, and get to enjoy the benefits.
WOW that was a good writeup, thank you so much!!! I'll keep a lot of this in mind as I play through - going to just roll with the punches for my very first, learn from mistakes and all that, but at the very least I can get some treasures and the like on my first playthrough which'll be really helpful. Especially because of how skills carry over when maxed!
Thank you again! This writeup is fantastic and I really appreciate the effort you put into it, genuinely
