Mu Yifang - He kinda has to go with the flow and isn't OP or terrible at any one thing. Use if you want to build whatever you happen to get the cards for every game. His extra strengths lie in being able to use cloud swords anywhere, which is great with moonshade and the chase ones, and in getting some very important upgrades with spring course tea. Great for hybrid builds of cloud swords and other cards mixed together.
Yan Xue - A character I find to be 2-dimentional but still quite powerful. Usually just go whichever one of cloud swords or unrestrained swords you're getting more of before the final breakthrough. She can do other things but can be quite powerful with just these. Can also use a bunch of that multihit sword that gains qi to rack up tons of qi and dragon roam for more damage and to get around guard ups, then kill with a Dharma Spirit sword. I highly recommend formation master as getting up to a level 2 meru formation lets you get on a 2-turn loop of unrestrained swords which is insane, and even the attack up and attack down formations are great with either cloud or unrestrained swords.
Long Yao - Great with defensive builds and I highly recommend making a deck that gets onto a 3-turn loop with upgrading her sky delicate bracelet with finishing touch and you can get so many guard ups some opponents can't do anything to you. But really can just go any combination of cloud swords, gaining qi, and spirit swords and still be pretty good.
Cat lady - she's good with sword intent but I find her best with just a bunch of cloud swords and then a dharma spirit sword, and you must have lithe as cat for it to work. But overall I find her somewhat boring to play as I feel like I just try to make dragon roam, moonshade, dragon roam or flash wind, step lightly or a gain qi cloud sword, dragon roam or moonshade, another step lightly or gain qi cloud sword or something that inflicts flaw, then any chase card into a dharma. Can kill most opponents on turn 4.
Sword embryo/heart guy (since we're calling the previous girl cat lady) - He can kinda do anything depending on what you make his unique card into, but I find using it to gain lots of defense on a very defensive build, or to make a gain qi cloud sword chase to help build up qi for a spirit sword build, or formation master with unrestrained swords to all be powerful.
Really it's up to you and whichever strategies you want to go with. I'd recommend one that gets extra cultivation like Long Yao or Yan Xue as I find being able to go first in the endgame is really important but really any of them are usable.
