I think it might be due to the fact that I have an integrated Intel card (GPU 0), and a RTX 2060 (GPU 1) on my M17 Alienware laptop. I have tried every step of your guide. Nothing has worked thus far. Everything is updated, everything was done, and still nothing. In fact, I even tried to go to the Settings file, color me surprised when I couldn't find it. I can only assume this is because I never got the game to run it, so it didn't exist. I even added the "-console" option too. Still nothing. Created the Settings.cfg file on a whim, figuring "what do I have to lose?" Still nothing. I'm really at a loss here, and I don't expect I'll get a quick answer. I really think, for me, the game check for Intel card, finds, it and terminates, that's how it feels. I've tried all three loading options, just to try to get the game to run, and it's all the same. Did I fail to install something else (i.e. Vulkan)? Anyway, since I never got the game to run, I'll wait to see for the next game update, and try again then. Otherwise, this is just another game I'll never be able to play due to my hardware incompatibility.
There is room for this theory. I do recall a recent Steam Update with a Windows redistributable (or whatever it was called) that could have had an impact on how this program, Steam, Direct X, and Windows would/could communicate. Several games did also have minor updates about the same time. Kind of fits.
P.S. Other games that use DX12 run fine for me. I stumbled on a fact that some games that do run DX12 can be run simply by running their .exe from the local file. So, I tried to run PlanS.exe directly. No Dice. Feels like its might not be Steam, but possibly in Windows. May be something, may be nothing, I don't know, just some more information. Good Luck.
Success! I think. Game started, but rather than play, I figured it best to report my findings while they are fresh. Maybe this can help others.
TL:DR... Confirmed there is an issue in/with Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) - 14.40.33810.0 (Size: 20.7 MB, Installed 6/8/2024), possibly also (x86) version (18.1 MB).
So, the specificity of your response happened to get lucky with the quantity of 2015-2022 Redistributables I had.
Precisely Two, version 14.40.33810.0 for x64 and x86 architecture (?).
Since they were exactly the same, but with one caveat, x64 vs x86, I picked one and ran with it, I choose x86.
Selected Modify, it threw a prompt, then asked me if I wanted to uninstall or repair.
Your statement said you repaired, so I choose repair. It did it's thing, and prompted a restart.
Reboot, and try to run the game. Failure.
Grrr..... Ok, thinking WTF, but after a second, it hits me what about the other one.
Figuring WTH, I execute the above but for the x64 variant, reboot, and.... It took. Game started.
Since I repaired both files, and it would seem that these were installed by Steam (by my own recollection of events), I cannot confirm or deny that it was the x64 version that "did it" or if it was the combined effort of both repairs. I just don't know for sure. Maybe you would know better, or perhaps the experiences of others would help here, as they have helped me. With that, I'm off to try this game.
Thank you for the additional assistance in getting this running. Good Work.
