No more merchant after completing main quest?

I've defeated the demon around moon 65 and the merchant has not shown up since. It is already moon 82. Is it intended that he does not show up after completing the main quest or am I just having bad luck?

I'm trying to play a "peaceful game" and the traveling merchant has arrived for the first and last time in the 8th moon. Since this moon he has not arrived. Now is the 50th moon.

Don't worry, fulfilling the quest line certainly didn't cause it.
I don't have it completed and the traveling merchant is not coming. :(

I beat the game on moon 40 in current run. It's moon 139 and have seen him 5 times since. luck indeed.
