Can I get more than one Soil at a time?

Just got the game today, quickly figured out that I can run into food problems if I grow my population too early. Garden seems to be slower than Soil (Though I've only made it once), so I was trying to hit the Humble Beginnings repeatedly to get more soil, though I can't ever seem to get a second one to come out. I'm at Moon 9 now, still just the one Soil.

So the question is, can I not have multiple Soils at the same time?

Yes you can have multiple soil. Invest in farms and carrots as early as you can. Farms are really fast. (1 soil, 2 brick, 2 planks, 1 adult). Carrots do not need your villages to do anything unlike berry bushes.
