How to use markets

Am I dumb? I built 2. I'd guess you are supposed to drop a card you want to sell on the market? But any card I try to drop on it does not stack with it? No structures, no foods, no raw or processed materials. I'm on moon 53 atm.

Might be a bugged market.
I've used them in maybe half of my games so far.
The intended behaviour is supposed to be

• Drop a card or stack of cards on the market
  
• The market will become locked, you can't add more cards after it begins
  
• The market will process each card individually for 60s each
  
• The market will give you double the normal sell price for whatever it sold
  
• The money will clink uselessly off any money chests you hoped it would drop into, leaving you to put it into the chest yourself.

Chest behaviour has been changed since this post was first made.

• Drop a card or stack of cards on the market
  
• You can add new cards to the market after it begins.
  
• New cards will be drawn to the market if they have the same name as the card that is at the top of the stack.
  
• The market will process each card individually for 60s each
  
• The market will give you double the normal sell price for whatever it sold
  
• The money will enter nearby money chests.
  
• The market produces shells instead of coins on the beach, just like the Sell verb.

Any card can be sold at markets that can be sold on the Sell stack zone.

You can only drop cards on the market when the game is not paused.

Idk, I think it was some odd bug, I definitely tried both while paused and unpaused - after turning the game on today and loading my save(effectively restarting) it appears to be working as expected (and as Ohagi-Chan described).
