viking edge breaker wont activate

I played last night. And while taking the tutorial dojo, I couldnt activate the edge breaker of viking.
It should just aligning the sword up and the shield on the left of it right ? But it just wont activate no matter what. There's never any sign that it would activate either.
Is there anyone experience this ?
or was my game bugged ? or I just did it wrong ?

Turn your shield hand horizontal, palm down.

Common mistake I still do like why isn't it - oh right I gotta rotate my shield 90 degrees towards my sword.
