Yes updating the creation kit is fine, I had no issues last night.
If folks are having issue with the game it is mod related. To be fair if you are using the CK there should be no reason to have any mods that need to be updated by other authors.

Patch Notes Features

Creation Kit should automatically load the BSAs of Creations that have their own BSA files

Blender Exporter and documentation added. Supports Blender 3.6.5, support for Blender 4.0 is in beta status*

"Keep Dialog Open" checkbox added to "Search & Replace" window.

"R" button added to "Search & Replace" window to refresh selection to selected object.

Bug Fixes

Reduced time for loading an NPC Form

Clouds should dim and become transparent when selected and by pressing "1"

Issues regarding Height Map import and exporting have been fixed.

Fixed issue where a Creation could be uploaded with no categories selected.

Bethesda needs to hire some people that know what they are doing. These games do thing that i don't see anywhere else. Even games that totally suck function better. Flying cows and Followers that vanish for the play though. The game may just corrupt all files randomly out of the blue and a week later that save might be fine again. If the game freezes Alt Tab don't work and you have to do a hard shut down to get you computer back. ESO updates are mega slow and if you say piss on it and stop the update your computer goes freaking nuts. Quit screwing around with Skyrim. The current lot of Y axis DEI folks didn't make the game. Get out of my files.

I'm a mod creator for Skyrim, folks if you want to continue making Skyrim mods, simply don't update Creation kit. If you did already go back to your last version of CK. Always make a duplicate of CK and stick it in a file outside of STEAM, so you can use it as a backup if you update CK by accident. Hope this helps someone...

You don't have to like the company to like the game they made, especially over a decade ago. The company changes, the games usually stay the same with slight changes, if necessary. I enjoyed plenty of Ubisoft games in the past, but these days the whole company is a dumpster fire.

Okay, we have a list of what was intentionally changed in the update... Does anyone have a list (or a link to one) of things either broken by the latest CK update, or still broken after the last couple updates? I need to know what to beware of.

There is nothing broken in the CK. You just have to download/install the correct version, which can be found under Library -> Software (not Tools). It is named "Skyrim Special Edition: Creation Kit" (version 1.6.1130, but can also be used for 1.6.1170). After installing you might also want to use Creation Kit Platform Extended (on NexusMods).
