I have dealt with depression myself for decades. I have had friends deal with it. I have had sui thoughts. I have had friends attempt sui. I have known people that successfully did.
I am greatly more offended by people that feel the need to act on my behalf to defend me and create a 'safe space' for me than I ever would by a "Suicide" option in game.
Yes, it's just a video game. Yes, chill. In general people know the difference between real world and fiction. If you say you do not than either you're intellectually dishonest or YOU have bigger problems to deal with and should probably address it from that aspect rather than trying to white-knight online on other peoples behalf.
And it's not reasonable by default to want things to be safe. It's patronizing and authoritative. I'm not dumb, and I do not appreciate others acting by default as if I am. I don't need others deciding what is safe or not safe for me. And I definitely don't need others changing things so I don't have to "deal with them" in the first place.
Things like that are what led to for example the Superhot VR's story being absolutely gutted into oblivion due to minority voices complaining about suicide (which was a significant story point in creating the dystopian hellscape of mind being equaled to software).
And to finish - I am baffled this is even brought up on a simple text option to die in a simplistic yet by design violent video game about constantly killing things into thousands and THIS is somehow the final straw for some people? Virtue signaling much?
To be honest, it's location in the menu, being the first option in the quit sub menu has been quite annoying when I've been trying to restart a run because i'm trying to attempt something specific, because it takes WAY longer to do the death screen and run back into the map than restarting. I would appreciate if those could be switched around
Yes, I can relate to this strongly. I am more triggered by people calling attention to it than it existing in a game, as someone who has a scar on their neck from attempting.
I'm not personally bothered very much by the option existing in the game. For a game ABOUT undead, dying and coming back to life as topics in the game can be expected. Sorry Booshmee
I've dealt with suicides - both in family and friends - it is a little triggering to me but I am not wanting the game changed for it. Same with the schizo (not bothered but shouldn't have to change it).
People are always going to snowflake about anything they can. Why aren't people jumping all over AAA games that offend them? GTA is okay but Schizo isn't because dev isn't a AAA studio. CoD, MW, BF - they all have all sorts of content that could be offensive but I don't see people with pitchforks pounding on their door.
Maybe we should have readers rewrite the books they read because they don't like the words used to write it. The "snowflake syndrome" is a plague on the world.
Let dev do what they want. It's their game, their creation, their choice. If you don't like it then don't play. It's a pretty easy solution.
you've seen the other posts on this board right? how they're suggestions for the game, how to improve it, what could be added?
what makes this any different?
if the people who are so vocally against this are so above these "snowflakes", then why do they care if it gets changed? if they'll keep playing anyways, what does it matter? and if they stop playing because of it, how are they any different than the "snowflakes" they're decrying?
it really just doesn't make since to bring so much negativity to the board when someone asks for a couple of words in one menu to be changed.
(also, caiys, would recommend this thread get locked in the near future, i highly doubt any better suggestions for replacing the option are coming in. unless you'd want to change it to 'commit sudoku', that is!)
I agree we'd have different opinions, but my personal opinion is after you start this, step by step people would say the blood shouldn't be red, the skeletons are horrible, exactly what happened here. And yeah there'll always be people like green blood, but the developers will be spending too much time fixing these.
I'd rather have devs making the game itself better. Or available to more people. For example, spend some time and let me help with the localization!!!
And I don't think you should be worry that, to quote another expression, "if you give them one finger, they will take the whole hand". I think it's obvious to everyone that this game depicts a complete fantasy that deals with ridiculous, sometimes macabre themes. That is what makes the game so great. It would be ridiculous to suddenly suggest that the blood should be green or that every character is now a robot who falls apart upon death. I think the latter can be quite comedic as an _optional_ setting or an April Fools joke, but nowhere near something anyone would demand (and it would take quite some time to actually make all those new graphic assets, unlike what this thread is about).
Yes, I'm making this request basically on the behalf of others, but it's also based on my own experiences with this subject manner at a young age. And while I have written a lot of words about it so far, it is about _just two words_. Two words that can take someone out of the game for a bit..... It doesn't take the developer a lot of time to change that if they want to, it won't have any effect on your enjoyment of the game if it does change. While I welcome the discussion, some replies are really blowing this request out of proportion.
