How do I use the furnace?

I've tried putting wood and copper in the furnace but it's not turning on.

Wood will not burn in the furnace you need the coal/charcoal that is all over.

Furnace only works with coal or evercoal that you can craft with x50 coal and x50 wood

Coal can be harvested east of the starter camp, at the top of the hill.

get charcoal from mining the black rocks on hills and near some cliffs and by black rocks i mean completely black no crystals in them. if they have crystal formation in it then that's iron.

oh yeah to answer your question once you have a furnace you add the charcoal into it's inventory the ore you wish to smelt and then click the turn on to light the fire.

No, the only requirement of of evercoal is the materials (50 wood + 50 charcoal), and the cooking pot (the crafting station for food and potions).
