Haven't played a game like this in ages...
I'm kind of interested in this game--but I haven't been into wrestling or the video games since the PS1 and PS2 Smackdown games. (I believe it was the Smackdown games--you could make your own paperviews, your own wrestler who would have little storylines interwoven with actual superstars).

What are these games like today? Can I just get all the old superstars from the 80s, 90s, and early 00s and make shows with only them? I stopped watching not long after the Rock left. Probably around 2002 to 2004. Wrestlers after that I have no connection to.

Is the fighting good?

Storylines and created wrestler storylines any good? Overly scripted? Can your CAW be a "type" of wrestler or is it all scripted in one specific way? I'm kind of remembering I tried one of the more recent titles (in the last decade) and my created star had scripted lines and attitudes extremely different than I imagined him.

If no to the above, is there a WWE style game with the legends of the industry in it?

Thanks in advance.

2k games isn't like games of old like back in the ps2 days. Back then it was more arcade like. These 2k games are more on realism.

There are characters from different eras of wrestling but being a modern game, most are from this generation. If there isn't a character that you want you could either create them yourself or use the community CAW. I'm not much of the modern roster player. I like playing with attitude era wrestlers. Which has a decent amount. The Rock, Stone Cold, NwO, Goldberg, RVD, etc. You can also google WWE2k23 roster and see the game roster.

As for story, there's different story modes. This one, you have the John Cena's story, Two versions of Rise, and a Universal Rise (not really storied). But the MyRise is where you can make a CaW. You can make him/her to be whatever type. For your question, it is scripted and yeah, depending on how you make the CaW, might seem weird because the acting doesn't match the wrestler.

They give you the people from the 90s 00s, but if they returned. They give you the old version.

Goldberg, they give the old (age) version of him.
They like to put old (age) versions of people in it, well they play favoritism I think.

Trying to make Goldberg not seem as great as he was putting in the old version of him.
His stats don't reflect the one from the 90s 00s either.
I mean he beat Brock Lesnar, he beat Hulk Hogan, so his stats should be higher than those.
Need really good OVR to go 176-0

Also, MyGM, they have him like 2 mic skills or so.
"WHOSE NEXT"
everyone knows that line, his mic should be higher, at least 4.
You don't have to go on a 2 minute rant to be considered mic skills

Goldberg and Faarooq,
WHOSE NEXT? DAMN
just saying 1 liners that got us going.
Goldberg, YOUR NEXT, he should be given free promos if used in a match in MyGM.

Also, the games like WWE, NBA, etc.
They go off current roster, so there is a couple of the greats but if your looking for those that were like role players back in the days, like Buff Daddy Bagwell, not likely to be in (not in) because theres so many of those people, it would take a long long time to do everyone.

Games has always been current roster, like Smackdown! on playstation, they didn't have ricky the steamboat and all those earlier superstars, it was current roster.

True. I love setting up cards in Universe Mode and just watching them play out.

By far this has the most 'authentic' feel when it comes to wrestling games

This gameplay isn't more 'real'. The graphics and models are the most realistic. The 'easy to pick' up game play makes it arcadey and spammy. Plus the AI pulling off ridiculous comebacks, is reminiscent of RAW for the Xbox, which looked fantastic and had oodles of features, but your opponent can spring right back up after you laying into them.
Would be great if Yukes could get back on board.

Isn't that how RL WWE works? One wrestler getting the crap beat out of them then one reversal will put them in the driver seat.

Either way, I wasn't saying the game is real. It's a game, of course there's going to be some things that a game is supposed to be like. I was just comparing to the game of old. Those were way more arcade like. Very fast paced and seemingly over the top. This game, if you try to go fast paced, you are halted by a stamina bar.
