stuck on ranger D5
hi, is it a good strategy to start early game with full SMG into smooth transition on full laser gun in mid/late game after building a high range damage and high attack speed ?

ok finally clear a D5 run, I switch full SMG to half machin gun and laser gun, perforation stat carry a lot imo

Ranger does best with SMGs and just going pure damage, the bosses should just die so fast, they aren't even a threat to you.

Strangely, this was exactly what I thought and what I had been advised to do, but I was stuck with a full SMG build until I switch it to weapon that had range damage (of course) and a piercing effect like laser and minigun (since SMGs don’t have piercing)

smgs blow if you dont find that early game unique that gives you 1 pierce + atlast a pumpkin (and tbh preferably more then 1)

after you get atlast a single piercing on it you shred anything in your way, without it enemys will just deathball you

There's a common that gives the SMG's piercing that works well enough, especially with a couple pumpkins. Personally, I almost never run SMGs by themselves, mixing in two shredders cleans up the wave clear issues SMGs can have on their own.

so we agree : SMG + item wich add piercing to it or other weapon with range damage and piercing like laser

You don't need piercing for the SMGs, if you have enough damage, they erase everything really fast. If you get piercing, it's good, but you hardly need it. The Laser Guns are only going to be good if you're going into Endless, and get the Retromation Hoodie but the problem there is, you'd need max'd out Dodge and you don't really go for Dodge on him. You kill them all before you have to worry about dodging anything. But only the Hoodie is going to give you any chance of having enough attack speed to replace the SMGs at any level.

I was stuck more than 20 hours trying to achieve ranger D5 with full SMG no piercing...
as mentioned earlier by someone, without the piercing effect, you quickly get overwhelmed in the late game even with correct %damage and range damage value, it's mission impossible, I swear

That doesn't really make sense, but I've had success with unorthodox builds in my time as well.

SMGs are good early, but highly overrated; shotguns are simply the best gun. Ranger is one of the few potatoes that I feel does not need to hyperfocus on a single weapon, and can just pick up guns in general(except pistol, of course), the variety helps plug up any weaknesses a single weapon build might have.

yes SMG are perfect in early build, no doubt about that

the best gun is the sniper its not even a competion or subjetiv or anything

its just a fact

there is the sniper on nr 1 and then there is nothing that comes even close to it
whats nr2 and 3 and so on you can argue about that but not which is the best
and its def not the shotty

Check your math, bud. Spelling as well, but mostly your math.

Legendary shotgun scales higher off ranged damage than anything, exclusively legendary weapons included, thanks to the 6 100% ranged damage projectiles and reasonable base speed that lets you benefit from stacking attack speed; obliterator just has too slow of a base attack speed. Sniper is a funny joke gun for focusing on range as your damage stat, and tossing some fairly weak shrapnel around, you literally do better on hunter with 6 crossbows than sniper guns; it's unfortunately just mediocre.

It's fun and it's your favorite, but that doesn't change the facts of how the math works out.

i tryed both and one worked much better and sweety you can keep any spelling errors i do on a steam forum were nobody but you cares about them.

if you want i will gift you one extru here just for you <3

*and just to edit to correct you on something : doing assumptions on what is someones fav is to put it simple : stupid

no the sniper isnt my fav in fact i dont like it cause at really high lvls of endless gameplay it turn the engine into a stuttering lag fest

my fav is the shuriken cause it well allows an easy transition from a 1--20 run to a nice endless run with a stat that most chars will have boosted allready to a good lvl

have a plesant day ;)

imo, I prefer getting six Tier 4 shotguns over snipers. 6 bullets per shot for 9 base damage each, 3 piercing, and a decent base attack speed (attack speed is the only drawback of the weapon), very competitive overall
