You clearly dont pay a lot of attention to those guides then, or are doing something else massively wrong. Lasers are his only option. If you dont pick them you will lose.
His whole shtick is way less enemies, but the little that spawn have lots of health, including elites and bosses. So you need guns that deal big alpha dmg, which is lasers.
Then you stack attack speed, ranged damage, damage %, a bit of movement speed, some max hp and armor, grab yourself a Tardigrade or two, and most importantly more enemies. Thats the build, good to go. And Jack recently got a major buff with +25% more dmg to elites/bosses. Jack has 0 RNG with the exception of getting those Aliens or Mouse, but thats not required at lower Dangers at all.
Jack is not hard, Jack is actually one of the best classes in the game now. High A tier for sure. But he is not forgiving to play, together with Ghost he does challenge your movement skills especially if you start creeping behind the DPS requirements per wave. That first elite especially can be tough
And thats whats exposed with Jack whiners, they dont got the movement skills necessary

I think this is around Jack's limit, unless you get 10 Vigilante Rings and 5 Hunter Trophies before wave 30 or something equally insanely lucky
Got Jack to final wave in d5 - died, again, because something spawned in my way just fraction of second before walking over the "spawning cross" could move the spawn somewhere else.
Stacking lasers with ranged dmg + attack speed much as possible; sure I'd hit for ~400. Sure some trash dies in one hit. Maybe even a mob behind them. Even with the run the focus I couldn't kill any of the elites.
So far my impression with Jack has been that he is completely based on getting exactly right rng through the run. I mean I frequently don't have even 5 lasers before round 7. *The one round* I got everything right.. ended because reasons above. The stupid increased mob damage that kills you in 1~2 hits at high levels. Hell, getting pacifist d5 is easy in comparison.
My Pacifist run at d5 and "60%" level dodge = final level walk through dozen of mobs and dodge ~20 attacks in row, which according to statistics should be very very unlikely. Jack at dodge 60%: dies in single hit of trash mob. Right.. working as intended and all that, clearly. ¬_¬ Dodge is useless, armor is useless, speed to move out of the way is good - until something spawns in your while trying to keep away from ton of mobs & bullet hell of projectiles.
I'm happy for all you who finds Jack easy and well balanced. Sadly the game statistic doesn't show tries on each character because with Jack, mine would be somewhere around 200..
Then I thought ok maybe I do have to focus a bit on my movement, and died at 2nd elite.
3rd time I thought ok fuark this, I'm gonna tryhard for real now, no bad decisions either. Died at 2nd elite, and had the pretty awful luck with level ups. But I had THREE Silver Bullets for the 2nd elite, and it was not enough to survive.
And my movement skills are way beyond the likes of Deathcrow or sparrow or whoever he is, so you know this ♥♥♥♥ is hard. He's a Vampire Survivors player anyway (no skill required), so dont listen to any his comments.
These new elites are not kind to Jack, they are way way overtuned. I remember I got Chef as first elite in one of the runs and I was like "oh thank god". Before, Chef was considered the hardest one.
Jack is trash now with the advent of the new elites, so I take back my previous ranking of him. You need to get very lucky with his level ups and items to stand a chance.
I rushed 50-75% as very early to not be overwhelmed. After that it was a cakewalk. The piercing also helps.
