Builder with Meelee weapons?

Builder's turret scales with your best ranged weapons base stats.

Does anyone have any experience how his turret works with meelee weapons instead?

It doesn't interact with your melee weapons.
If you don't have any ranged weapons, your turret isn't shooting.
