People wildly underestimate how difficult real online multiplayer is to implement... it's not something you just casually add to a game. Especially a game like this, where there can be so much happening so fast, and precision can be very important.

Maybe if a full-on sequel was built around the idea, but even that is dicey because the need to accommodate online play would probably change the feel of the game quite a bit.

I could go on for awhile, I'm just saying to be nice to the devs. It's not like they don't *know* online co-op would be nice: they're not ignoring you, it's just not likely to happen. It's kind of like saying "Oh man, I love that kit car you built, but do you know what would be really cool? a Daytona Speedway to race it on!"
It's that much more work, not to mention a different discipline than the current game is built on.

Vampire Survivors is fundamentally a simpler game, and even after blowing up to the point where they can hire the best engineers in the world if they want to, their attitude towards online play is "Ehh, let's see if we can make it work. Check back with us in a year or two."

So don't be down on them for keeping it to local co-op. Even that is an achievement and it works pretty well =D

Agreed. It basically means heavily re-coding the game, you have to add a lot of modifiers and buffers to the code to deal with latency, communication, etc. While things like remote-play can toss two players onto the same screen easily enough, for actual multiplayer. you also have to completely reconsider many aspects of the game in response to there truly being two player characters (or more).

This task is even more daunting when the game is complete, that is entirely coded (minus adding DLC or new features that are add-ons, not re-codes), meaning there is a lot more to redo. It's much easier to change gears early on in development when there's a lot less you have to redo.

There's more to it than even that, and while some devs pull it off, not everyone does. It can be very hard, especially if you're a solo dev for a two-man team or something.

I tried remote play together with a friend, but it had to big delays. And we all know how deadly dealys are in this game. So yes, I would opt for real online coop as well.

Give parsec a try instead. Remote play is a nice idea, but may perform horribly.

Online play is often no better than remote play for most games. Net code, game optimization, people's individual location, peoples individual set ups, peoples internet speeds and everything in between.

A GoFundMe/Kickstarter/whatever with a minimum of $20k is more likely to provide incentive to the dev to add co-op then some silly petition that they have no reason to pay attention to.

I mean, seriously. it is a $5 game. That the game has as much as it does and is as good as it is, is beyond anything more than what you should expect from a game at that price point these days.
