Forcing a build is something one can always do, but if the game doesn't go the way they want their run can be compromised.
Then it will get me more melee weapons for the whole run, making the issues worse.
Not a solution, I tried.
but to the OP: it sounds like you're just describing bad shop luck. the shop doesn't really 'show you only melee weapons every single time', that would only be true on a character with "can't equip ranged weapons"
bad luck can happen to every character. some suffer more from it than others, because those characters are weak.
one thing that might help is paying attention to the weapon classes.
https://brotato.wiki.spellsandguns.com/Weapons#Weapon_Classes
gun is special because it's the only class where everything is ranged/projectile, for example something like precise or primitive contains melee and ranged.
slingshot increases your chance of finding slingshot, but it also increases your chance of finding spear. smg doesn't increase your chance of finding any melee weapon, because no gun-tagged weapon does that.
what starting weapon are you choosing when you do the ranged curious builds?
