Their engine doesn't seem like it would allow it AND they would have to work a lot on that because if they just add a player it would be very easy instead of just easy.
How do you balance the game around that when the SP part isn't very balanced to begin with ? Since there are two players then the mats are split wich mean do all players share the same mats or is it to each their own or at the end it's all mats collected divided equaly to each players ?
So it's not that simple and I could add even more questions but you probably understand what I mean by now.
The Godot engine does have limitations for co-op other than balance, it as to display another character and more projectiles + turrets, I know because when doing the endless mod adding more ennemies made the game drop in FPS and crash, same when making ennemies attack faster. So I know what I'm talking about especialy since I own the game. ;)

Jokes aside, telling a 2D indie developer to switch from Godot back to Unity is a hard sell at this point.
