Farmer feels impossible to win with, any advice?
This potato feels terrible. The increased harvest basically becomes even because of the less resources dropped.
So he's just a damage penalty.

How can I get around it? I thought I would scale crit and go precise, but because he doesn't start with a precise weapon it's just something you have to get lucky with (which I haven't yet). I don't get enough resources to roll for what I want anyway.

Same thing with engineering. He doesn't start with any tools, so it's luck to get them, and then luck to get any extra turrets.

Any advice?

Either sticks start or torches start work.
Then switch ASAP to better guns. Given his damage debuff, don't build melee or ranged, elemental is much better. Building engineering in D5 is extremely hard too (because typically you have to pick early Harvesting and can't push engineering fast enough), but should be possible in lower difficulties.

I'd suggest going either for full tazer build and aim on stalling instead of killing, or going for taser/flamethrower build. Don't try going for DPS build, aim for having just enough clearing speed to not be overwhelmed.
Later, use your accumulated early harvesting and invest heavily into survival stats.

So you would recommend to pick up some extra harvest early to go with his extra harvest? I'll give that a shot. I'm used to taser builds, so that should be easy enough.

You kinda have to, otherwise you'll be left with terrible lategame economy, since farmer gets less mats from enemies (even if you kill everything).

You basically play Farmer like you do Pacifist. Or at lest a version of a pacifist build.

Also shields looks to be the ideal weapon for farmer shield as they scale with armour which completely bypasses Farmer damage downside while also being a support weapon (extra harvest).

Pretty much this. Stack early harvest hard. I prefer to grab the best damage weapon I can find along with some hands until my dps falls off at which point you're just pacifist with your harvest taking the place of pacifists passive for income. Only grab defensive stats and run around the outside of the map until the end.

The real strat is to play him like pacifist, but with armor stacking. If you have shields and hands, they are early support/harvesting and dodge. Invest early in harvest upgrades and try to have several hundred by wave 9. Stack armor and HP to give the shields enough damage to kill some enemies. It's easy to get 600-1000 harvest this way. And god forbid you hit a piggy bank.

Thanks for the advice! That worked so well, finally got the win!

I played the farmer as an engineer, hard pushed harvesting (got harvesting to 700 by the end if I recall) and had so many turrets that everything melted.

I played Farmer like pacifist, just buy hands and maybe a taser or two, then just purely focus on defensive stats, here is a screenshot from my win so you have an idea.

All the advice in this thread has finally netted me a Farmer win. Literally days of playing trying to get it, lol. Thanks! Armor + HP regen and tons of slow, then play pacifist. What a bad character, lol.
