Co-op only possible with controller?

Why is co-op and even remote co-op just possible with another controller? All my friends just use keyboards

but why not two keyboards? What's the difference? It shouldn't matter if they use a button on a controller or a keyboard

I believe it's because the game can't identify which keyboard an input would come from, but controllers have a system that makes that possible.

in the remote play together settings you can add a keyboard for the player. I haven't tried it for this game, but play around with the remote play settings where they show controllers and mouse and keyboard for each user you're streaming to. Like maybe turn off your keyboard and turn on one for them.

Yeah, the way Remote Play works is that it tricks the game into thinking that both computers are the same computer. The corollary is that it thinks both keyboards are the same keyboard, with all of the keybind problems that would logically entail.

I used steam link remote play together with the workshop mod - ( [FIXED] Multiple Players On One Keyboard )
for three player brotato - me controller - 2 friends using keyboard AWSD and arrow keys
