That's basically how I win with every character ^^
What do you mean by "shop 1-3"?
Wave 1 -> Shop 1....
The first 3 shops always offer at least 2 weapons (per reroll). That's when I try to buy most of my "starting loadout (weapons)".
Heavily rerolling and being offered at least 2 weapons per reroll makes it much easier to get the weapons you want early on. At least with common rarity, but early game and low rarity is where the set bonuses for 6 weapons of a type shine.
By wave 8-9 two blue are often finished.
That's just a noob's advice, but well it works for me and hopefully helps another new player ;)
There's also leveling. With characters that have no xp modifiers, I try to gain at least 1 level per wave. If you're having trouble to collect enough material shards to level up by the end of a wave, it's a sign for me that I fall behind in damage.
Edit: This strategy allows you to consitently select your first 4-6 weapons, which will make your runs much easier.
I'm skilled enough to routinely beat hundreds of bosses at varying difficulty levels and with multiple character classes on:
God of Weapons
Vampire Survivors
Holocure
Halls of Torment
Rogue: Genesia
Soulstone Survivors
But I'm not skilled enough to beat the first boss on level 0 Brotato even after 30 hours.
Which means it's also a game difficulty issue. Objectively, and in comparison to most -- if not all -- games in the genre, this game is very difficult. Those others are walking simulators compared to Brotato.
I still think it's one of the best, though, and definitely not "bs game", as OP calls it.
I just wish I had the skill to effectively play.
There are also some habits that players may have from other games, that may be not good while playing Brotato - for example: I played a lot of similar games and most of them taught me that it's important to have high crit chance and high luck, that you can ignore stats like hp, dodge and armor and that you must have ranged weapons because melee weapons are bad. In Brotato I feel many things are different - I am doing better with melee weapons, I can ignore crit chance and luck entirely, and still have a good run (this depends on the character I am playing but is usually true). On the other hand neglecting armor, hp and dodge will most probably result in game over.
Masque - play as Loud with 6 sticks, try a couple times, if you still can't win - go to YouTube, search for "Brotato Item Tier List" and watch those videos (made by Cephalopocalypse), then try again. While I do not 100% agree with those videos I do consider them to be generally very good and I think players having problems with beating the game may learn a lot from them.
Just tried three runs with the Technomancer, all wrenches and screwdrivers, with added mines, lumberjack shirt, 2x trees, and the item that turns trees into turrets, plus extra turrets and a laser turret and some dynamite items. Also one weapon was the ghost sceptre for the extra HP.
It was a blast (no pun), but I lost all three at the boss.
I sometimes also do this, if I play a ranged build - for example 5 SMG's and one Ghost Sceptre. However if you are playing with Wrenches and Screwdrivers, then Ghost Sceptre is not very good. Because you need to get your ranged damage high for this weapon to be effective, but if only 1 of your weapons benefits from having high ranged damage, putting points into this stat is not doing much good for you, better get Engineering high, so all your turrets and mines will do more damage. My favourite way of getting hp is grabbing every "Broken Mouth" I see. Also having 6 primitive weapons (like Sticks or Slingshots) will give you +15 hp bonus.
If you want a fairly easy run, Loud with SMGs. Only catch with Loud is to not go negative on Harvest. Lean into Lifesteal for healing. If you find a Minigun, awesome, if not don't worry.
You'd think an item like Crown would be silly on Loud, but it's probably the most powerful item he can get if you have positive harvest, because it immediately negates your only disadvantage.
