Esty's Couch - Please explain?
I'm confused about Esty's Couch, it states that I'll have +5 Max HP (correct), and +2 HP Regen for every -1% speed I have [tells ya current % inside brackets] and then lowers my speed by 15%

All of that seems fine, and I think I'm just understanding this wrong or its poorly explained, but literally having positive Speed -> I'll lose HP regen?? Because by the items description, it does not state in any way I'd LOSE HP Regen if my speed was positive and ONLY that I'd gain it based on all the negative speed% I got.

That's how all items work, just like the bloody hand lowers your damage if you have negative lifesteal

I don’t think it reduces your hp regen only affects it if you have negative

Literally went from having +40 HP regen to being in the negative because I had positive speed with the Couch..

That is how math works to be fair; positive speed is the same as minus negative speed. Gaining 20 speed is the same thing as losing 20 negative speed.

I recommend you use the workshop mod "Improved Tooltips".

It shows the stat effect changes in parentheses, including in a separate line changes from other items such as if you get +%Damage from taking +%Speed.
This way you don't have to guess if you are not sure for something.

I'm well aware of how math works, but that it's doing this specific calculation is not mentioned. The items description is quite literally "for every PERMANENT -speed%" which is correct, but it doesn't mention the second part that literally having positive speed would do the opposite effect. Half the description for the item is therefore missing if it doesn't want to be arbitrarily confusing

Thanks, this actually is useful. <3

I've never had trouble with the definition of permanent in this game. It's an if then statement, it should remain true for positive or negative figures. If speed negative health regen positive, if speed positive health regen negative. I'm just thankful negative health regen isn't damage over time

It's not an issue once you're aware of how the game handles it. The issue is this isn't straight-forward for anyone that hasn't either 1) Read about it 2) Tried and messed up :)
Neither of these things are inherently bad, but it being the type of game it is, it's a rather large oversight, that mod the person above linked literally solves this in a very neat and non-intrusive way.
