Don't neglect your survivability, because you will be getting hit, sometimes having to run straight through a crowd to get out of a tight situation.
I was baffled on how to win with one armed when i first got the game, But now, after trying to win danger 0 with every character, I was able to get it. Now i need to try and win with mutant, fisherman (I WAS SO CLOSE! I lost wave 18), and plenty other i still need to unlock.

SMG is also decent but hits significant diminishing returns on Attack Speed value (so more than 1/3rd of your starting 200% Attack Speed is effectively wasted). Ghost Axe is okay as well, but you end up with a very narrow window of time to switch to a good weapon after building up all that Damage% thru Wave 9, so it is unreliable.
Ignore trying to kill the bosses, that isn't gonna happen, fopcus on staying alive in boss waves.
It got worse as a strategy since the elite waves introduction, but generally you should be able to power through most of the game unless swarmed down by hordes.
