It's like brotato and vampire survivors are inspired by android games, very unsettling

edit: just noticed brotato exists on mobile and it's FREE. Saved $3, nice

Brotato has more advanced and balanced gameplay mechanics. I also prefer the graphics style and the business model of Brotato (1 time purchase to play, no MTA or ads).

Why tf are ppl going nuts over this game? It doesn't look anywhere near as good as other similar games in the genre.
I've never seen reviews flood a game like this so quickly.
The simping has put me off buying it

I try not to get too involved in these kinds of discussions because of my own biases, but I feel Brotato did well because it was a Roguelike horde survival game in a sea of Roguelites. There's no meta progression and that worked well with the underrepresented audience that don't like meta upgrades.

You can look for yourself. There's hundreds of games in this genre at this point and so very few of them opted out of having meta upgrades.

I'm not a fan personally and I'm just checking the boards out of curiosity, but that's my take on it.

The Brotato demo came out in May 2022.
Survivor.io came out in August 2022

Therefore Survivor.io is just a free Brotato riddled with Microtransactions.
Just like the crappy "free" Brotato app not developed by Blobfish

Yeah the brotato community isn't very good either so you have made a good choice.

Actualy brotato got most of it's success from Vampire Survivors, since it made the genre popular people asked for games like VS and Brotato was one of the options, thus the success, if you want another exemple it's like when PUBG made the battle Royal famous and then Fortnite switched to that too.

I really don't understand the appeal. Both this and vampire survival are just remakes of the old flash game/unity web genre of which there are dozens of examples that never got as popular despite doing the same thing with less or more polish. The old flash players have grown up and have money to spend on these games now, is that it?

Mind if I ask what those old Flash/Unity games were? I'd be pretty interested in seeing the origins of this genre.

What inspired Vampire Survivors is Magic Survival wich was a mobile game I believe, sadly no flash games of the genre come to mind so I can't help here (I don't play much of those).
