Glutton bad ?
Is it me or is Glutton just awful in danger 5 ? I beat D5 with all characters, and the three other new characters only took on or two attempts to win, but I just can't get that D5 win with Glutton yet. It feels like at some point it's just too weak to deal with stuff, the xp and item costs debuffs are so bad. It's not noticeable at first, and it just feels great to start with 50 luck... then at some point you just randomly die just because you're not strong enough, and that's when you realize that you just don't have enough stats, because items are too expensive and level ups don't happen often enough. This character reminds me of how D5 worked before the rework, with the inflation and ressources scarcity making the game so frustrating back then.

Any tips to get the D5 win on Glutton ? (besides the obvious : get lucky with xp buffs / items price reduction item in shops). So far my best attempts were with ranged (any ranged weapon until i get a decent amount of Explosive Damage, then try to transition to full Explosive damage)

I found him really strong once I (think I) solved him..

I took sheers and focused on damaging enemies with the fruits.. Once you stack the damage from the fruit a bit you can kill bosses pretty quickly with them and clear entire areas really fast.. I made sure to focus on explosion size increase.. And stat was I went attack damage>dodge>armour>luck

Also make sure to grab any + health from pickups items

Go 6 Pruners, and keep upgrading Melee Damage to improve the explosion damage of your fruits.
Keeping moving towards another fruit to clear out a pack of enemies. To do so, you need defenses, so also focus on HP, Armor, and Dodge.

Harvesting isn't necessary, but I did try it out and got lucky with item drops.

that sounds interesting, i'll try that thanks for the advice !

so my mistake is to not play around the fruits enough ? like this character just can't perform if not using that specific gameplay in D5 ?

Glutton is very good, pruner seems to be the best starting weapon (gets explosive scaling going + also gives harvest because it's a support weapon). Transitioning to the explosive weapons in the late game is ok, but not mandatory, your ability can be enough. I had something like 450% explosion damage at wave 20.

I've tried Shredders, Hatchets, and Thief Daggers before, but all of those runs failed. Since Glutton doesn't provide any direct bonuses for ranged, melee, and general defense, my attempts to play him like a traditional fighter turned out to be bad.

But once I solely focused on getting fruits, it became much easier to min-max. I just needed more Melee Damage and Luck to boost my fruit damage, and three defense stats to move from fruit A to fruit B without taking too much damage.

I think Pruners and fruits are important factors of Glutton's winning strategy. Players better than me could potentially win without them, but since I have unlocked all available achievements, I don't think I'm that bad at the game either.

Alright I just got my win and it was super easy thanks for Vengyr and Healthbar's advice. I just took full Pruners until wave 10, reached 200 explosive damage then slowly transitioned back to ranged explosive damage. The run felt really smooth and the bosses died in 5 seconds. I didn't even have above average RNG, it's crazy how snowbally this character is.

I played him as standard melee class with Planks. Works very well that way too. Didnt like Pruners. Just get even more luck, consumable healing, all that good stuff. Easy peasy

was it in Danger 5 though ? When trying anything else than Pruners, it just felt like I couldn't eat enough fruits and scale enough, then the item price and the lack of exp just made it too difficult at some point

6 pruners with +consumable healing makes you functionally immortal on Glutton.

By the way, they buffed the various experience-boosting items. Literally just one Scar now completely negates that half of the drawback.

Yeah I only play D5. I didnt chase consumables like a mad man, they were just a bonus that helped my Planks.

What do you mean? You just eat fruit, pump melee and attack speed, buy all the explosion buffs, then just get RL/N if you see em. Hell, even some purple/red Shredders might be OK, provided you have explosion size.

Worst case scenario, you'll end up with a lot of gardens and a lot of fruit kaboomers, allowing you to just sit on top of the gardens while the bosses are getting exploded.

Also, something that might not be clear in-game: Improved Tools, which "increase the attack speed of structures", also affect gardens and med turrets. An incredibly valuable item if you go the Pruners route.

Yep, I already know from Bandana that medical turret healing is technically considered an attack (the piercing is effectively cosmetic, but it does apply).
