I say that because I also started with slingshot and steamrolled through D5 and I consider myself to suck at this game..
More like the idea that there is a strong "meta" for this character. I was happy to see a character potentially use engineering - structures - and items that allow you stand still etc.
In the end, it felt like a trap/it is a trap. It feels people already think that items like barricade and chameleon aren't very good despite have some extremely niche uses. People think it is better to go engineering because of the damage and speed penalty, But it is a bit disappointing that even a character like this can't quite use engineering. I think it is more of a reflection on where engineering and engineering related weapons are in the game.
I haven't had luck with an engineering build, but ranged works. Turrets are worth picking up, even without the engineering stat if you don't tank it. That's especially true for healing turrets, with the free armor on top of + 3 healing helping you while slow or not able to move.
Getting weapons levels 1-3, and then getting up to about 300 before waves start ASAP makes it pretty easy to power up with 1k money per round.
I don't know if it's the most fun class, but it's a neat change, in the same way pacifist or explorer are interesting.
100% agree. turrets and mines are worth picking up. They are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper for the +2 armors. Otherwise, getting wrenches/screw drivers and engineering stat items are mehhhh.
Pivoted from slingshots into other ranged weapons, never was really in danger of dying and farmed a bunch of free gold from passive.
Feels strong overall if you avoid the bait of engineering weapons, these aren't worth it.
Farmer is way better now, feels a lot better.
