Also Singshot is the most overpowered weapon in the game and it's primitive. Stick stacking still works too.
It is very difficult to defeat Wildling on D5 by playing a character that is not the Wildling.
I did similar trick, but instead of going for discount mage I went for discount knight and switched to full medi saw and melee damage build.
Only if you're REALLY unlucky. It's unusual, in my experience, to still be in the Melee or Ranged Damage hole by the end of the 3rd wave. After that, it's fine.
Nothing you cannot come back from, but it does feel like trying to play pacifist with damage stacking, rather than weapons a character is supposed to be good with.
