How exactly does HP regen and lifesteal work?

I sometimes have a lot of HP regen and lifesteal but its like I dont heal any dmg at all?

Life steal might be bugged. It doesn't seem to proc like it should, or did in the past.

Lifesteal works like this:
Chance that it applies, lets say is 50%.
If you hit an enemy, the chance rolls and if its a success, you regain +1 health back.
Your damage doesnt matter, its just a bare chance.

Health regen is simply the higher it is, the more you reg per second.

Lifesteal procs on hit, so it's a lot better with fast firing weapons and/or piercing/bouncing. However, I'm pretty sure it doesn't proc multiple times on explosions from what I've seen, so it's pretty bad with rocket launchers for example.

You can mouse over lifesteal and it explains what people have said. chance to gain 1 health.

This means fast weapons or multi-hit weapons are great for this.

yea it not scaling even a smidge with damage dealt really makes it hard to like , dealing 100 dmg only to get a chance to get 1 hp back, along with it being incredibly hard to stack

yeah its kinda meh ... Same with hp regen, you need like 40-50+ for it to be effective. Makes you stack nothing but hp and life steal and nothing else if you wanna be effective.

with 1 or 2 smg 10% lifesteal works perfectly fine for me.
i agree that it sucks on hard hitting weapons though

Id also like to know that, or those spikes from the cacti club, or burning, do those trigger lifesteal?

lifesteal % = get a chance of x to heal +1 hp when you hit an enemy (very good with fast weapons like flamethrower smg etc)

life regen: heal a certain amount of hp every second (hover over the stat to see the exact amount)

yeah but does the lifesteal proc from cacti spikes, flame dmg etc. or ONLY your weapon hits?

Afaik lifesteal only works on initial hits, the spikes from the cacti club are secondary effects, same for burning, cyberball and baby elephant's effects, for examples. Unless todays update (beta branch) changed it, haven't had a chance to play it yet

Game also counts melee weapon's infinite pierce as separate hits. For example if you hit 5 enemies with one swing, it counts it as 5 hits. Makes life stealing pretty good for melee weapons, and incidentally medical saw is one of the best healing weapons in the game if not the best, atleast if youre doing a melee build. Or need some healing for example the Generalist.

No since its not an attack. Its a special effect like Turret 'attacks', life steal doesnt apply to them either.
